I'm sick of announcers mentioning the "tip drill" when a pass gets deflected and intercepted. Often the ball is floating like a beach ball and the guy makes the easy play and intercepts it. IMHO that would happen with or without the tip drill. Coaches have created a drill for a skill that the players already have, and then think (well, some announcers think) that they have produced/taught a new skill.

Sportscasters seem to remind us of the tip drill every time this situation occurs. I find it annoying because of its predictability. Much more annoying to me are already stale idioms like "put points on the board," and "put air under the ball," and the meaningless "defensive possession."

"Sense of Urgency"
"At the end of the day........."
"8 men 'IN THE BOX'"

Instead of "he can make a play with his feet" just say "he can run well." These cutsie jargon-esque phases become shopworn rapidly.

Just get the Double U.

Apparently that is short for 'just get the win'.

They don't have a play in their playbook for 3 and 20 situations.

I hope he's not hurt seriously.

This team wants to win.
