According to sources, Nebraska is expected to focus on Colorado State's Tim Miles and Ohio's John Groce, whose team plays North Carolina in the Sweet 16 in St. Louis Friday.

Nebraska has a horrible recruiting base, is the second program in a small state and has an upwards climb to be a top 10 program in a 12 team league. It does have new facilities but if I was Tim Miles, I'd be very cautious about taking a job like Nebraska.

Go Gophers!!

I'd think Miles would turn that down...

Judging by the message boards it appears that the majority of fans don't want Miles at all. They are concerned about his recruiting abilities, they want Groce from Ohio. They are supposedly willing to pay 2-2.5 million/year for the right guy if necessary.

I thought Tim Miles was crazy to go to CSU where its tough to win. He has turned that program around and looking to next season they could be a favorite to win that conference. If Nebraska would offer him the job it wouldnt shock me if he takes it. He is a guy that likes a challenge and has built great teams everywhere and at each level that he has gone. Nebraska fans would learn to appreciate his ability to coach and to recruit. He has the type of personality that will thrive at a bigger school. I truelly beleive that at Minnesota Tim Miles would change this program in a way most can only dream of. He is a great person and will be able to recruit the kids we want to see in Gopher uniforms.

I agree, Tim Miles would feel like a Jerry Kill hire.

Good one.

Crap. I was hoping Miles would stick it out at CSU for another year or two. Not ashamed to admit it, I count myself among the group that was hoping he would succeed Tubby, whenever that is. Been a few years since I knew him but never had anything but great interaction with him.

If he gets offered and takes the gig, good luck to him with Big Red (except against the Gophers!).

Almost as funny as a guy who spends all day on a message board trying to convince everyone of his superior intellect yet somehow cannot apply that knowledge beyond making coffee in the mornings.

I've never actually made a pot of coffee in my life, at work or at home. You've also used this lame joke many, many times before. Try harder.

I've never actually made a pot of coffee in my life...

Never? Man...I did before I drank coffee, just so I could provide it for people who did.

Selfish b@stard.

[In actuality, I just don't want to see a post stay on topic for more than 15 posts...would hate to break the GopherHole model]

1.4 mil per year base with an additional 75k per year, should allow us to be in the game down the road if we are looking for a coach.

Two thoughts on this deal:

1. I feel bad for Iverson who switched there to play for Miles for 1 year
2. This move shows us there is almost no likelihood that Tubby is going anywhere as Miles would have held out for this opportunity if his agent thought there was any chance.

Beej, I do not feel bad for Iverson. Maybe Colt 45 should have thought about this instead if impulsively jumping ship here.

Good for Miles. Regarding him still being a candidate here someday: There seems to be a major taboo against hiring a coach away from another B1G school. It hasn't happened in a major sport in a long time, IIRC. Maturi would never do it. The new AD may not be so polite I guess.

Good luck to Miles. Great guy, met him several times when he was in Marshall. He's got a long road ahead of him. All seven of their regular players this year were upperclassmen, including four seniors.

For Miles that is probably a good thing. When a new coach takes over he wants to get his kind of players in as soon as possible. Having a bunch of upperclassman makes the job easier they are leaving sooner than later and you can quickly build with your type of players.
