Andre McDonald Commits to Gophers

"Gophers get first commit in 2012 class"...since the last one that committed for 2012.

It's awesome that we got the ball rolling early with a multi-offer prospect.

Welcome aboard, Andre!

GI is confirming it via tweet.

So Nick Rallis doesn't count then apparently at least that's what the headline at GI implies.

I guess technically the report is accurate as Rallis would have committed to Brewster and McDonald is the first to commit to Kill.

Dude had 19 td's last year? Sounds like he is very promising...plus he plays basketball so he must be pretty athletic. Very nice get.

I love it! We seem to be developing a new culture here w/MN players.

I'll bet Andre met Coach Kill and said, "this guy gets it."

We rollin'.

Good get for the gophs. Hopefully, now the Hawks can get the #1 junior player in Iowa (WR Amara Darboh from West Des Moines).

I dont get it. Its a assume get for the Gophers but why would he commit so early in the process.
-all gopher fans have to do now is to wait a year to actually see if he still is 100 percent committed.

I completely agree with you. At this stage in the game, I am not confident at all that these players who commit this early will be signing their LOI with the gophers in 2012. It's such a long process and so much can happen. Andre is one that I would be super pissed to lose though.

Also, can someone here tell me about tavaughn Blair? Is he the real deal? It seems like he would follow Andre here since they are pretty good friends.

They commit this early and then don't have to bother with other schools if they choose not to. They can focus on getting ready to enroll early if possible and can start training like the staff wants them to. Many benefits. Also takes the pressure off the kid and he can focus on enjoying his senior year.

The same reason kids like Nick Rallis and Tommy Olson verballed over 2 years before signing their letter of intent: because they bleed maroon and gold and can't see themselves anywhere else. Lets not question it and just be happy we have a kid like Andre who is stepping to the plate for his hometown squad. Kill is going to get this thing turned around and Andre is stepping up and putting his name in the hat. Now he needs to get in the ears of kids like Charles Webb, etc.

Atta boy Andre!

All i am saying is if i were a recruit, in my mind i would commit to the gophers but i would wanna go on offical visits to all the other schools. Visiting other BCS schools for a weekend would be so much fun. Not to say that they spoil you like crap.

Welcome Andre! Nice work Coach Kill  Keep the wall around Minnesota up!

here comes the Iowa

trolls, got an Iowa offer and turned it down, they/he (PH) will be out in all his various aliases terring up the message boards. IALTO:)

He's committed to MN for their academic program he's interested in also. He won't be going anywhere. He got a call from Mich also.

We are starting to build what seems like a nice little group of young WRs (Gardiner, Crawford-Tufts, McDonald, Jones) who all have pretty different styles.

Welcome aboard Andre!

Do you happen to know if he is good enough academically to consider enrolling early? Basketball be too important for him to do that?

Of course you don't get it. Why would a Junior want to commit now and have a real life his Senior year? Why would he want to concentrate on just having fun playing football and going to school? What does a 17 year old know? Why would he want to get his degree early and enroll at the U next January? Why would he be so dumb to do these things? Why?

If he qualifies for classes, he can enroll at the U and still play HS basketball. Kids do it all the time.

I think what Bob_Loblaw is driving at is that is basketball important enough to McDonald so that he would choose not to enroll early. Even though a number of kids do enroll (or take PSEO courses at the U) and maintain a presence at their high school for extra- and co-curricular activities, what would be the advantage of McDonald enrolling early unless he was going to take part in spring practice? Participation in high school basketball would preclude that. I imagine he could get his feet underneath him academically at the U, if that's the goal of an early enrollment, but I can't think of any other reason it would make sense if he's not going to play spring football.

Nice stat's for the young man. Last year: 181 carries (workhorse), 1446 yards (productive), 7.99 yards per carry (exciting!). He looked good on film. Elusive running back, who breaks tackles, keeps his legs moving, knows when to find second seams, puts it into overdrive between tacklers. And, he has thrown a few passes for good yardage.

Welcome aboard!
He's a receiver.
