I just got a text from Andre. His team won 72-46 over Clark (KY) in the Mini Mart TN-KY Challenge. He scored 38 points in the win. It was also Andre's birthday. They are busing back home, which is a 3 and 1/2 hour trip. The Spartans improved to 9-2 with the win.

If they played Clark County (KY) that's a nice W. They have a couple of really good players headed to Div I (mid major level) next year.

Great to read about another big time scoring game from Andre

FOT

I think it was Clark and not Clark County that they played. You are right Clark County is good. They have Vinny Zollo, a former Kentucky commit who is headed to Western Kentucky

Sheldon Clark (Inez KY) is traditionally pretty decent, too. But Clark County is one of the better KY teams this year.

I love the fact the he is playing against so much high caliber competition.

I think we should all sit back for a moment and remember what it was like just a few short years ago, when guys like Hollins wouldn't even give Minnesota a second look. Then take a look at the Iowa Hawkeye program which takes on Drake on Saturday on the heels of a loss to Iowa State--Iowa may well be the third best team in their own state.
Talk about two programs going in different directions. We are extremely blessed to have Tubby. Can we question him now and then? Certainly. Are we extremely fortunate to have him? Absolutely.
Mr. Maturi--It's time to get rolling on Tubby's basketball practice facility.

Has anyone hear seen Hollins play live? What kind of a player is he? I'm late to the party on this kid (obviously) but would like to know what to expect from him. Is he going to be a Gopher for 3 or 4 years? Or does he have 1 and done potential?

Or does he have 1 and done potential?
No. Not even close.

He's a slashing 2 guard that is decently athletic (but not as athletic as Coleman), doesn't have a phenomenal shot, but appears to be working on his jumper. Gets to the hoop, is well built, but still only about a 6'2'', 190 lb kid. Attacks the rim off the dribble, is pretty strong defensively, and seems like a smart player.

Not completely accurate.

"The deal with Hollins is simple: he can stroke it," ESPN.com's Dave Telep said of the Memphis native who connected on 43 percent of his three pointers last year.

Smith recruited the 16.5 point per game scorer out of one of Tennessee's strongest high school programs. The coach also made it clear that he was bringing in Hollins to play the point guard spot, a position he will play full-time for the first time this year.

Wow...not what I read by a few people at the tourneys. Maybe he just had a bad few tourneys?

Posted before but since I found out my home brewed wine is starting to ferment and needs to be drank and I am busy burning my crab apple tree in the fireplace here goes. Cheers

Thanks for the information on Hollins. Sounds like he could be a player but doesnt sound like a true PG. Not saying he needs to be since thats a rare breed but it would be nice if someone could control the tempo and perimiter scores like Al.

No offense, but I strongly disagree with the assesment on Hollins. I've seen him play in person multiple times and he is a very good shooter with range and a quick release and is much, much better than just a "decent" athlete. If you're 6'2" and can do a between the legs dunk I think that automatically makes you at least a good athlete. I would maybe compare him to a more athletic, smarter, and better defending Devoe Jospeh. Maybe that's not the best comparison, but if I would compare him to a current Gopher player that would be the best I can come up with.

Having said that, I fully expect him to be a 4 year player and a big-time fan favorite.

A lot of it has to do with what you're comparing him against. If we're talking impact recruits for high-major teams he might be an average athlete. Clearly he's well above average in terms of high school basketball players.

Agreed.

I still think he's more than an average athlete on a high-major team, at least in terms of jumping ability. Those dunks are pretty damn impressive for someone his size before he's even a senior in high school. He looks like he was probably about 6'1" at the time. I'm not sure there are a ton of players on good college teams or even in the NBA that can dunk like that at that height.
