This is Richter story I just wrote for another site
Alex Richter Looks For the Right Offer
Chris Monter
Alex Richter, a 6-foot-6 senior forward from Lakeville (MN) South, is one of Minnesota’s top available players. Richter has received four scholarship offers, but has decided to wait until the spring signing period. WestCoastHoopsReport.com recently caught up with Richter to learn the latest on his recruitment.
Richter scored 33 points in a 61-60 loss to defending Class 3A state champion St. Paul Johnson and had 29 in a 67-57 victory over Hill-Murray. They face Class 4A two-time defending Class 4A state champs Hopkins Tuesday.
Richter averaged 22.9 points per game as a junior as the Cougars finished 20-9, losing in the Class AAAA Section 3 title game. They started the season 0-3, but had won ten of their next eleven games. Richter has scored in double figures in all but the season opener, when he was held to eight points against Apple Valley. He scored 20 or more points in 20 of 29 games and had 30 or more points four times.
Richter averaged 19.0 points per game as a sophomore for the Cougars, who finished 12-15, losing to Apple Valley 69-65 in the first round of the playoffs. Richter scored in double figures in 25 of 27 games. He had three games of more than 30 points as he scored 34 versus Bloomington Kennedy, 36 against Burnsville and 38 versus Apple Valley. Richter had ten other games of 20 or more points.
Richter is an outstanding scorer inside, even against taller opponents. He needs to extend his shooting range and improve his ballhandling skills to move to the small forward position in college.
You decided to not sign until the late signing period. What schools are you hearing from right now?
“I am hearing from Loyola and the schools I have offers from Columbia, Brown and Florida Gulf Coast the most and also UMKC. I think that one of the St. Paul Johnson coaches has a connection at UMKC and I would love to go down and play with E (Estan Tyler, his AAU teammate). I think that he is going to put in a good word for me.”
Did you get a chance to go to any schools for visits?
“I haven’t got to do that yet. I think that I am going to take some time to check out Columbia and hopefully, this season will bring in some more offers and I’ll go from there.”
Do you think that in a way it was good to wait, because if you have a good year like you are expecting, you could get more schools looking at you?
“Definitely, the number one focus is on Lakeville South and the recruiting, which I can decide on later. But, hopefully, with my good play and my team succeeding, I’ll get some good offers.”
You have most of your players back for Lakeville South. What are the expectations for you for this season?
“Expectations, I can say that we can contend for a state championship. We just showed that we can play with arguable the best team in the state. I think that we can play with just about anybody. We just have to figure it all out once we get there. As a team we have been playing together since second and third grade, so we are pretty good as a team.”
What things have you been working on to get ready for this season and preparing for college?
“Conditioning and working on my perimeter game, but when it comes crunch time, I still think that I am better going to the hole and elevating, especially versus a smaller team like Johnson. We just need to go back to the fundamentals a little bit and we’ll be very good this year, so that should be fun.”
You start out the season playing two of the defending state championship teams from last season and both teams are the favorites to repeat. Do you like playing a tough schedule that is going to get you prepared for the season and playoffs?
“I think that it will build us up because we have a very tough section with Apple Valley and Eastview that we have to get through. It will only make us better.”
