GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday's game against Vanderbilt after the All-American linebacker attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey in a 41-17 victory.

He tried to blind another player and gets suspended for one half of one game, ridiculous. This was IMO far worse than what Oregon's Blount did.

And no penalty for having his hands inside an opponent's helmet? Thought that was verboten.

Anyway, the NCAA should step in on something this blatant.

Doesn't that normally get you a couple year's suspension behind bars?

Refs didn't see it. Fans with DVR's saw it on replays and put it up on YouTube. Also, I don't think the NCAA can do anything (though the SEC could if it wanted to).

Lame. Only one half and its against Vandy?

They're only 30+ point favorites vs. Vandy, really need him this week. The SEC commissioner is going to start suspending coaches for criticizing officiating, but for this . . . . . we'll see.

This makes Urban Meyer look like more of a snake than Nick Saban. The Jacksonville DA should file charges.

Yeah, Spikes must have gotten to them first...

Pretty disgusting, what a joke of a penalty, if the school admits it was an attempt at eye gouging how can you possibly justify only suspending him for one half?(against Vandy)

Reason number 1895 to dislike UF athletics...

Mike Golic on ESPN radio went off on this. He said if he was a player, he would have preferred getting punched by the Oregon player, than have some guy try to blind him. Suspended for one half against Vandy is a complete joke.

Don't get too carried away here boys, it's yet to be seen what Carter's punishment is.

Not even close to the same thing. Also, Brew has already shown this year by suspending McKinley for 2 games that he isn't afraid to punish a major contributor.
