There have been a few bright spots, but let's face it. This season has been a perfect
storm of crap that happened to this team. The silver lining was their effort and the
experience gained.

Next season starts now....thank goodness

From 2 trophies to nothing. Glad I visited them at the state fair.

They wouldn't attempt to fill a bowl game with the 5-7 Gophers, would they?

Tough, tough season. I figured we weren't going to meet expectations after the close games against Kent State and Ohio. Just can't seem to get it turned.

I always seek out your threads, metrolax, for their even-headed and thoughtful analyses. Could not agree more. I feel so very bad for most everyone in the program for the ridiculously difficult year they (and we) had to endure. There is ample evidence of the hard work everyone put in. But the whole thing just became too much, in the end. A truly fresh start in the spring is just what is needed now. Brighter days are surely ahead, with a solid foundation having been laid by Coach Kill. Gold bless him and the rest of the members of this U of M program.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Vegas nail our season win total at 5 before the season started? How do they do that?

And they had Iowa at 7.5. They aren't performing magic.

Those who remember the regular 58-6 beatings the Gophers took whenever they played ranked teams have a somewhat different slant on this season: Gophers played TCU, Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa and Wisconsin close. Those games would have been blowout defeats for many previous coaches. If some knucklehead hadn't put TCU on the schedule, the Gophers would be heading for a bowl. My big concern is how much improvement can be seen at both Iowa and Wisconsin and is likely with Nebraska next year. Hard to see the Gophers contending for a West title anytime soon.

That's pathetic. Competing for the B1G West is a very reasonable goal. Wisconsin and Iowa weren't blowing people out this year, and staying "close" (no way in hell were they "close today") to those teams is nothing to get a pat on the back for. This type of post is a perfect example of why Wacker got 5 years and Mason got 10. There's a segment of the fan base that truly believes Minnesota is at some great disadvantage like they are Northern Iowa playing in the B1G or something.

You are right about TCU......I always that was a big mistake. The CFB "game" has changed to just getting
your minimum 6 wins and build from there. The TCU game cost us that.

We had a ridiculous schedule to boot, and given everything that happened, 5-7 isn't that bad. Still, scheduling
TCU is not worth being home for the holidays. You gotta give yourselves a fighting chance.

As Carlson said.....the weight of all the troubles proved, in the end, to be too much to overcome.

Sorry about the double post- I just tried to add one word! lol

Honest question. Did you think scheduling TCU was a mistake when they were coming off a 4-8 season?

Screwing up the last 19 seconds of the Michigan game cost Minnesota a lot more than scheduling TCU.

IALTO. - how about the team winning 3 conference games to get to a bowl? Is that asking too much?

Or not to lose 4 out of their last 5 the way they did in 2012.

Or not to lose their last 3 the way they did in 2013.

Or not to lose 3 out of their last 4 they way they did in 2014

Or not to lose 5 out of their last 6 the way they did this season.

True there were WAY to many injuries this year, but that is certainly a lousy way to end every season.

Our best win of the season was against Illinois. I don't blame missing a bowl game on scheduling TCU. I blame it on us failing to beat everyone on our conference schedule except for the two west division bottom feeders.

This was a crap season. We had poor decision making and multiple no-shows by our offense, defense, and special teams. I am furious with our team and our coaching staff right now. Even more upset that they think this circus is worth raising the price next year.

This has been one of way too many seasons from hell over the last 40+ years. Get use to it.

Agreed. I wonder if Claeys ever replays his decision to go for it in his mind.

Offensive side of the ball was not ready to play coming into the season. That took a huge toll on our team in terms of confidence, identity, and health. We never recovered. That's on the staff.

The thing is, the OOC schedule is something you have some control over. The BIG schedule is not.

Starting with a win does wonders for a team's mindset.
