Well there's no other way to say it, that was disappointing. We didn't look competitive from the beginning. Is Iowa a great B1G team? No. Are they better than we thought they were? Yes. This team needs more time to learn and more confidence. So what happened?

1. We got our a$$e$ kicked at the line of scrimmage. A basic power run for Iowa seemed to result in a 9 yard gain. For the Gophers 1 yard. Ruddock could write a paper while sitting in the pocket. Nelson not so much.

2. Bad game for Nelson. Unless your Aaron Rodgers, you need to decide to tuck and run or throw the ball into the second row of fans. Many throws he did make were behind his receivers.

3. Iowa defended the read option well. Either they had great preparation or we didn't execute it well. Probably some of both.

4. Defense didn't play horrible, but can't be on the field that long. Our corners need some safety help.

5. Special teams looked good.

6. A sellout crowd in your favor is awesome. When they are quiet because they have nothing to cheer for, not awesome.

Both Safety's got hurt during the game at points yesterday. Brock Vareen played pretty well yesterday with the exception of the dropped ball play where he got burned.
Secondary play was the best thing about the Gophers play yesterday. Far to many plays the defensive line and the linebackers
were undisciplined and did not fill the correct gaps or stay in there rushing lanes and maintain containment on the Quarterback or take the correct tackling angles on
the running back. Weisman is a load he is hard to tackle, that said the defensive ends were running themselves out of the play and giving him wide open lanes to run at. Iowa's defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage and they really controlled the whole football game tempo wise. There were many times
the center and the guards were just getting whipped at the point of attack. There was not a good rhythm to the game for the offense, they have to get better.

On that smoke screen 72 yard play, the gophers got caught in a full out blitz of the linebackers and had a bad call at that time, Iowa made a great play call against that defense.
They got there lineman out to the right side and the running back against two defenders and the Safety was to deep to the other side. Catching the linebackers in that blitz was key
as they sucked the Gophers in well.
Bottom line Iowa controlled the game on both the offensive and defensive lines, they kicked our teams butts in the trenches.
Iowa is a good football team, and the Gophers are not as far along as we all hoped.

Weakside runs FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW KILLED US!!!!

Hageman and Cocharan and Campbell none of them had good football games.

That might be the most frustrating thing.

It was unreal how many times Iowa was able to run at the weakside of the defense. Honestly #55 and #99 had really
poor football games and Wilson and Campbell didn't do much once the lineman vacated there gaps and stayed blocked.
I was really disappointed in Hageman's play yesterday, he was taking him self out of the game by moving around
and getting out of his lanes. He played with really poor pad level yesterday and had generally a bad football game.
Not the beast mode he was selected for, the Minnesota D-line overall play was very disappointing, only Botticelli had
a good football game yesterday.

We haven't had an answer for a double TE running game in two years....see IA and WI. We don't have the horses as evidenced yesterday.
