An opening in the SEC: Robbie Caldwell out as Vanderbilt football coach

From FootballScoop:

Vanderbilt: Vanderbilt has announced that Robbie Caldwell will step aside after today's game against Wake Forest. Our sources tell us that Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach David Lee and Miami (FL) offensive coordinator Mark Whipple are interested in the job. We have been hearing that Vanderbilt has interest in Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and former Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden. Another source tells us that Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin would not be interested in the position.

Vandy is a "career killer" job - not a place for an up & comer to go, more like an "If I don't take this job, I may not get another chance" job.

I wonder if Phillip Fulmer would coach at Vandy? He'd be right at home, and if he were able to turn Vanderbilt's fortunes around, then wow.

I would think the Vandy job has got to be less appealing than the MN job, unless you are a Southern Boy and you love the dirty south...

Less appealing, less money, tougher job, tough conference...we're not worried...

Amen brother.

Less appealing, less money, tougher job, tough conference...we're not worried...

Nashville is a great town and Vandy is a world class school, but you would have to be a mid-major guy who thinks he has maxed out before you would take this career killer of a job. Vandy fans will be thrilled with a 6-6 season and a minor bowl. The problem is that this does not happen but once in a very blue moon. No one on our alleged "A" or "B" lists is going to take this job.
