This crowd is amazing - the intensity, the choreography, the longevity of the cheers, the apparent support of fans standing, waving flags, etc. has to be quite intimidating! Obviously I could do without the lit flames at the beginning, but wow! And to top it off, as you will see after a few minutes, this intensity/chants are during the game, not before the game! Clearly the Euros have taken their soccer style enthusiasm to the hardwood.

Go Gophers!!

Former Gopher Jim Peterson keeps tweeting these - this is another, with a pre-game ritual and then quite the spectacle at tip-off (1:48 in the video)...obviously a technical in the States, but wow!

Go Gophers!!

That reminds me a lot of the lower bowl in the Barn. Particularly for the non-conference games. Eerily similar. :D

bad ass! those greeks love them some panthianikos (sp)! well done. wish we didn't have as many passive aggressive types in this part of the country as we do. not enough true "fanatics". otherwise might be able to pull off something similar.

These videos remind me of going to some soccer games in Spain. You think fans here are rowdy? They don't have jack on some of those soccer crowds. I've seen opposing fans surrounded by and escorted around by policeman so they wouldn't get assaulted. The long, extended songs are pretty typical over there as well. It seems they can fill an entire game with their songs and cheering. It's is really an awesome spectacle.

I've never understood how here in the US none of the four major sports has even touched the European crowd intensity, maybe it's the fact that this country grew up on baseball and golf...

Japanese baseball is much different http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URHwFI7CaL0

Fans have lots of time, energy and anger when nobody in the country has a job.

The rest of the world is discovering how boring soccer is, and that there are actually more entertaining sports.

The first video is from Rubio's last major European game. 3pts and 3 assists. Calathes from Florida was the winning team's leading scorer.

Maybe it's because I've been living too long in "the state where nothing fun is allowed", but those videos are actually a little scary to me. I just have visions of some talking head telling us about how thousands were killed in a major fire/stampede at a European basketball game.
