Who thinks that the Gophers are playing pretty sound basketball? Really, the main issue the last two games is that they've shot comically poorly. But the collective slump won't last forever, and when the guards recover, a lot of wins will come rolling in. Every other aspect of their game looks either affirmatively strong, or at the very least, improved.

Chin up, GopherHole. This season's far from over.

I agree mostly. Guards definitely need to produce more than they did today. Also would like to see EE give us more. He looked a little lost against Dodd today. Mo is a beast.

No. The defense is poor. Boxing out is nearly non existent.

No, you're not the only one. I think they play pretty sound basketball. And they run and they play entertaining basketball.

I have been watching Gopher Basketball since the Ozzie Cowles days so the entertainment factor seems to be climbing up the priority scale for me and now may rank ahead of even the 'sound basketball' scale. Ever since Ozzie Cowles every coach every year has said the team will run more this year than they did last year. Pitino is the only one who has followed through on that promise except maybe Bill Fitch may have run more than Kundla's last Gopher team. Pitino is young and I am most curious to see how he handles adversity and the adversity that certainly comes in the Big Ten. I'm with ya - chin up, GopherHole.

Rebounding is atrocious due to your comment. As I said in another thread, we should take a page out of Izzo's rebounding practices. Izzo has had his players put on football helmets and pads. We should do the same and let 'em go at it......

Maryland is the 11th rated team in the country - they deserve that ranking at this point. I wish the we had a home game against them - I think we take that game.

As some have noted, the Gophers' rebounding is less than strong. That having been said, it has improved (along with turnovers). In a couple of games, shooting will be on, and everyone's tune will have changed. Mark it.

No leader. Someone best step up or its a long season. Hollins, you out there?

Gophs are doing well overall; what if we started out with 2 of 3 at home? Dre needs to step up as per the prior poster; not getting it done

My biggest concern is that the Gophs seem to go into these prolonged scoring droughts against good teams - where they go 3, 4, 5 minutes without a basket. That's where it would be nice to have a real "go-to" player who can create some offense, or at the least, get to the FR line.

I see the current Gopher BB team as a collection of decent parts that, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to be jelling as a whole. The putrid non-conference schedule tells us nothing. I'm willing to extend Pitino some slack, but he needs to land some recruits who can play. (preferably not another foreign player with an unpronounceable last name).

I don't know much about the team, but isn't it possible that Pitino's style of play is hard on the legs and very draining overall? Could that contribute to being a low-percentage shooting team?

I definitely think so. Just look at our first half verse second half in the last two games. That's a ton of running for our guards playing huge minutes. I see Nate's minutes increasing as he adjusts to the BT. To be most effective, Pitino's style requires a lot more depth than we currently have.

Look at UofL's minute distribution.

No need to panic until the Gophers lose a home game, and book it Dano the Gophers will beat OSU tomorrow night.

When the scales really start tipping the wrong way is if the Gophers stumble at home before winning a road game. Gophers need to make sure the latter happens first, not the former.

Maryland killed Mich St on the boards. We definitely need to improve there but there are other issues. At Purdue against a big team we almost were even on the boards 31 to 32. We really lack mental toughness, leadership, and muscle on this team. We basically need to win by getting steals, turnovers, and shooting a decent percentage of 3's.
