Do coaches really hate this guy? I'm wondering as he has now lost 3 coaches that seem to give him the middle finger on the way out. Anyone else get that sense?

Bo Ryan basically quit in season to force Alvarez to hire his assistant. Last two football coaches bolted a good program.

I agree. I think Alvarez makes all of the decisions and tells the coaches - at least the football coaches - when to jump and when a coach first comes in, the coach asks how high but after a while the jumping gets old and they flee to get out from under Alvarez's thumb. Alvarez turned that program around and for now the board of regents allows him to rule the program any way he sees fit and it’s worked thus far but Sconnie will never be any better than they've been because no great powerhouse of a coach is willing to be told how to coach and run a program. At Wisconsin, the football coach is solely the 'face' of the team as Alvarez is the decision maker/play maker in the football program. This is why they can't keep a good/great coach for any length of time. TRUST ME when I say the Alvarez dictatorship is well known in the coaching circle.

Until the board reigns him in or he completely walks away from the program, this is the best Wisconsin is going to be. Upper echelon of good but not great.

With that said, I don't believe he's the reason for Bo's retiring. Alvarez is a football guy so I suspect he left Ryan alone.

A case could maybe be made for why Anderson left, but I don't think this applies to the Bo retirement.

I remember a reporter saying after Anderson left that he found it very odd that in Anderson's office was a big statue of Alvarez. I guess he was in there to do a one on one interview with Anderson at some point and noticed it.

I could see Alvarez being involved in the football program more than any other since he was the one that got it to the level it is. Probably hard to step away from it completely. At the same time that can be a little tough for the coach too when you have someone looking over your shoulder all the time. I have no proof this is actually the case, just saying I could see it happening.

I have been in that office several times over the years, there is/was no statue in it. The statue is outside of the stadium

Yeah I wouldn't be shocked if I am wrong and am just making that up. I thought I read it somewhere but maybe not.

I concur. I have been there several times myself and unless it was added in the last 5 or 6 years it doesn't exist. Only thing of note is the kickass view of the stadium.
