OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Speed
Is and H-Back in the making. Possesses excellent measurables for a wide receiver, but below average height for a tight end. Bulk and physical development will lead to him outgrowing the wide receiver position. Movement skills are more similar to a fullback or tight end than they are pure wide receiver.
Separation Skills
When working on the inside he shows nice initial quickness and good overall agility especially when working against zone coverage. Shows good recognition skills on short and intermediate routes to locate voids in coverage. Is capable of stretching the seam and muscling his way through tight coverage at linebacker at safety level. Has a little bit of a short stepper with some hip tension that can limit his ability to explode fluidly out of cuts.
Ball Skills
Is very natural handling and catching the football. Shows confidence and has the size to shield defenders from the ball as well as attack the ball at its highest point. Has soft hands and will extend away from his frame to secure the ball.
Big Play Ability
Shows limited big play ability when employed out wide. Is a short to intermediate range target as an H-back that right now is at his best vs. zone coverage. Shows adequate-to-good top end speed and can be very difficult to tackle one on one in the open field. Plays almost primarily as a slot receiver or flex tight end which is actually a very good role for him. Remind us of a shorter version of CJ Uzomah at Auburn.
Bottom Line
Brown will likely be a different player three years from now. Time in the weight room and time with his hand on the ground as a tight end or fullback will enhance his versatility and value to the offense. Must develop as an in-line blocker. There a lot of tools to mold here.
