some of these names mentioned in the former Gophers in the tourney thread, but for everyone that wants to close the borders- here is some names that are in the tourney this year from MN. I started this list in my head last night and keep adding players, so please feel free to remind me of who I forgot/need to add

my starting 5
Tre Holloman
Kerwin Walton
Jackson McAndrews
Will Tschetter
Pharell Payne

backup bigs-- Steven Crowl, Nolan Winter, Dain Dainja
backup wings- Curtis Jones, Cam Heide, Jack Janicki, J'Vonne Hadley
i get 15 on the roster- so Parker Fox and Patterson-- but i really need a backup point guard-- I would lean towards bringing up Malik Wallingham from D2 Mankato

coached by Niko Medved or Brian Dutcher- Jared Nuness on the staff. (Eric Musselman is iffy based on birth location)
more NBA coaches available than college- Ryan Saunders, Sean Sweeney, Dave Joerger--- can pretend JB Bickerstaff and Kevin Burleson were from here and not just played here

Honorary General Manager (my list and he is from my hometown and his mom was my 1st grade teacher, so even though he died, he gets a shoutout)- Stu Starner-- assistant under Musselman, HC at Montana State- ended up running the Texas A & M 12th man foundation. Knew how to raise money.

based on the whole season, probably should start Jones over Walton, but recency bias gives the start to Walton. First half today Dainja starts instead of Payne, but not 2nd half Dainja

and there is probably 30 states that could do this and come up with a better roster- but i still enjoyed it.

probably should have Terrence Brown Jr on here-- the kid can get a shot up if the shot clock is winding down

A question? Does the current Gopher BB team have a GM? Who is responsible for hiring? a GM?

You have to start Curtis Jones and Dainja.

It's probably:

Skyy Clark (I'm counting him)
Jones
Hadley
Payne
Dainja

Bench:
F- McAndrews
F - Winter
C - Crowl
G - Heise
G - Holloman
G - Jesean Glover
F - Heide

How about AD?

Blake James of Boston College and formerly of Miami.

Coon Rapids native and grad of MN State Mankato

I knew Blake and we graduated together. Nobody was more consumed by their love of sports than him. The epitome of a "good dude".

Just say the word when we're serious and I'll make the call. 😎

You havent watched basketball if you think the 6-10 McAndrews can guard a sf. Tschetter has been a bust at Michigan. Seems like many people want to put the tallest lineup they can find, when basketball has gone to smaller quicker lineups.

My team:
Holloman
Walton
Hadley
Winter
Payne

Bench: Jones-high scoring 6th man, Dainja, Heise, Tschetter

No one locked down the borders.
Remember back in the day when "locking down the borders" meant you kept one guy from leaving the state such as Kevin McHale or Randy Bruer each year? Times have sure changed around here!

For the most part, teams that were successful pre-NIL, are the same teams that are successful today, and into the future. Has NIL allowed poaching of mid major stars quicker than ever ...possibly, hopefully this tournament is an outlier on the lack of upsets, versus it being the new normal.

Oil rich companies in Texas might cause those school to recruit via NIL better than pre-NIL. I think it's no coincidence our too biggest losses to NIL went to Texas Tech and Texas A&M.

The key for Medved is just like the key for PJ. Provide a winner and a culture players buy into, and sell that to however many supporters you can (NIL). I doubt PJ outbids many other power 5 conf teams. I think he can sell and he has an established product.

Will Tschetter only scores 6.5 points a game with only a couple rebounds. How is a starter over someone like Crowl, Winter, Dainja? I'm not even sure he starts as only average 16 minutes a game.
