All things DIII Championship game - STU vs. Mount Union

Go Mount Union! I just can't pull for St. Thomas (Johnnie fan).

Agreed on no Tommies. They shouldn't be DIII with access facilities and scholarship dollars like they do.

I think SJUgopher is just butthurt by the two blowouts SJU suffered this year at the hands of the tommies.

Let's go UST!

Tommies look scared. Almost like how Mount Union looked in the first quarter.

Dave Lee doing the national championship game on WCCO? Has he called a play for the Buckeye's yet?

Tough game. Still a good season. Maybe next year.

Honest question- if we played ust or ndsu this year what would the scores be-

Wow! Crazy game of momentum shifts. St Thomas with an extremely lucky break after scooping own fumble for score.

I'm not sure many top tier programs at that level will ever be able to compete with the Mount Unions and UW Whitewaters. Its awesome to see them compete at that level, but if you watched the game, they just got worn down in the second half. If not for the fumble recovery for a score, i'm not sure if they would have been able to keep the score within 28 points. Its interesting to see some GopherHolers say Caruso should be the next offensive coordinator. As a Tommie fan who follows the team second to the Gophs, i would hope that doesn't happen. That offense is incredibly boring and i think teams at the next level can stop it with the superior athletic ability at the D1 level. Nevertheless, its pretty impressive what that guy has done to the program in the last 8 years.

I'm a Johnnie too, but you gotta cheer for the MIAC if they make it to the championship round. Sick of Mount Union.

At least locally, the MIAC gets a lot more press and attention than the NSIC, so why go to D2? UST could possibly move up to D1, and play football in the FCS non-scholarship Pioneer League with Drake and Butler and some other schools like that. I've often thought that's what Mankato should consider doing, if the concern is that FCS football would be too expensive.

How about we just cheer for Minnesota teams?

Whitewater is filled with DI players who didn't qualify academically for UW and
there are no DII schools in the state of sconnie.

I'm not sure what Mount Union's secret is, but in the past 12 years, they have more
National Titles than losses. 11 Titles, and 10 losses, IN TWELVE YEARS! dang..

UW-Parkside is the only D2 school in the state, but they don't have football. Apparently, one of Mount Union's coaches lives in Florida most of the year, and recruits heavily the players who fall through the cracks down there.

Disappointed that St. Thomas lost - I was really looking forward to them facing off against ndsu is the championship game.

Why doesn't Mount Union just go D2 and challenge themselves. I don't know how their players avoid getting bored. they just blow through everybody every year and anything short of winning the Stagg Bowl is considered a down year. As far as the talent level that Whitewater has, they could always go to a D2 school in Minnesota or other states. Here in La Crosse Winona State is right up the road. Why not go for a scholarship if you can get one.

Because they are paying less than they would at DII school. STU, SJU, and Mount Union are schools with enormous endowments. I don't want to debate the academics, but the MN schools mentioned have great networks for employment and a long tradition of academic success.

By the way, didn't Whitewater win the last two years?

Correct, private D3 schools can be very creative with their financial packages for athletics. Not sure how UWW does it.

You can go to a MIAC school for less than the U of M if you have good grades and have some talents.
