Sorry if i am stepping on selectionsunday foot with this, so closed this if he feel not ok with it.

But South Dakota State and North Dakota state will be playing the Gophers.

Under new coach Richard Pitino, Gophers men's basketball will play North Dakota State and South Dakota State at Williams Arena next season.

I fixed the link and it now goes to the right tweet.

Has anyone ever been to the Maui Invitational? Usually take a trip that time of year and was looking at maybe taking in some sun, sand, and hoops. Can you get tickets on the street or does it sell out? Only thing I've seen online is package deals that are too expensive that include flight, hotel, and tickets. Thanks in advance for info.

18-game B1G schedule (which teams will Gopher play once, twice?)

Have heard the Big Ten plans to have teams play all of their 2012-13 single plays twice in 2013-14... if that turns out to be the case the single plays would come from the 7 the Gophers played twice last season.

Thanks GW, that helps.

per Doogie:

"• A Gophers source, when asked if this year's schedule will include any high-profile nonconference games outside of the Maui Invitational and the ACC/Big Ten challenge: "I don't think so." There's been no dialogue about getting athletic director Norwood Teague's former school, VCU, on the schedule."

I think that would be a great event to watch. Two teams, with young aggressive coaches, both playing 4700 square feet of "havoc" and "hellacious".

That's not encouraging.

And the beat goes on (apparently). Doesn't matter who the AD is, who the coach is. ... it's like pulling teeth to get a non-B1G home game fans can (at least moderately) get excited about. Probably shouldn't be surprised considering what happened with the North Carolina football home-and-home.

I'm fine with a cream puff schedule this year. We are transitioning coaches and systems. We'll need time to get the team up to speed before Big Ten play, scehduling a powerhouse before then will result in nothing but a loss we'll have to overcome later. Our season will be defined by our Big Ten success or failure.

Yep

My hope for Coach P's first year - no Big Ten meltdown in January/February.

For clarity, I'm not asking for a powerhouse, though that would be great. That's never been the case. One home opponent every year (other than the obligatory ACC) vs. a team of similar ilk is not asking for much, I don't think.

Take your pick, just to name a few. ...

(American Athletic) Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple

(Big East) Providence, St. John's, Xavier

(Big 12) Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma

(Pac 12) Arizona State, Colorado, Stanford

(SEC) Mizzou, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt

I wouldn't call any of those powerhouses, and I'd be more than happy if we scheduled a home-and-home with any of 'em. ... among many others.

Among many to chat w/ Teague today. No Louisville on the hoops schedule this yr. But they're working on another high-profile non-conf. game.

Problem with that is that these teams you listed have very little to gain in playing us. We likely will not move the needle much in their RPI if they do win, so why not go up against a higher profile if you are indeed looking to go on the road against a B1G team. And if they loose, its not as crushing as loosing to a decent team at home, but it certainly had no possible "quality loss" like we had against Duke last year.

Respectfully, I beg to differ. I'd argue the Gophers would be a perfect opponent for another BCS-type program. They're likely to be no worse than a RPI top-100 opponent (more likely somewhere in the top 75). Beating the Gophers (home or road) gets you at worst a solid, top-100 type win (those are valuable, home or away), but losing to them certainly wouldn't fall into the "bad loss" category.

TBD
18-game B1G schedule (which remaining teams will Gopher play once, twice?)

per Doogie:

• According to Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague, there won't be any basketball games with Richard Pitino against Rick Pitino this year. But a game or two with Louisville is a definite possibility starting in 2014. Teague did say that there's a chance one more high-profile nonconference game will be added for 2013. Right now, the Gophers will have good opponents in the Maui Invitational and in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. On the latter, fans should root more than ever for Andrew Wiggins, the guaranteed No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, to pick Florida State. It'll be the Seminoles at The Barn in early December.

Translation?

Don't hold your breath. It's probably a "Lloyd Christmas" chance.

And if it is, it'll probably be a one-time neutral-siter at some far-away locale.

@ Richmond is a go; date TBD

Richmond has confirmed Minnesota will honor the back end of the schools' home-and-home agreement. Sometimes when new coaches are involved a school will back out of a scheduling agreement struck by the previous regime. Glad we didn't. Spiders should be a good road test for the Gophers.

That should be a preety decent test away from the barn for the gophers. Richmond loses there best player, Darien Brothers, but return 3 other guys who averaged double digit points. They should be a good early season test for us. They return that Derrick Williams guy who is like 6'7 and around 275, but he showed good mobility for a big guy. He could be a matchup problem for us. I'm all for having true non-conference away games. I thought Tubby was a pretty gould scheduler, but my one caveat was that he didn't schedule tough true away games. I think teams benefit from those types of games later in the season.

@darrenwolfson: I don't know when they'll unveil, but per Teague, the #Gophers basketball schedule is "close to being done. Getting down to the very end."

Go Gophers!!

Interesting.. you would think we would have heard about a big name school if thats the case.. I'm expecting standard stuff to go along with what we already know (Maui, Florida St, Richmond). It would be nice if Pitino could add Louisville or Florida at some point down the road.

per Sid:

• The Gophers men’s basketball team will get a real test when it plays in the Maui Invitational Nov. 25-27. The other seven teams in the Hawaiian tournament include host Chaminade, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Dayton, Syracuse and Gonzaga, the 2009 tournament champion. … While all contracts have not been signed and there could be some changes, the Gophers home nonconference schedule this season could include Florida State, Montana, New Orleans and South Dakota State, among others.

Gophers schedule update: add Montana, New Orleans, and Lamar

Per Bleed's above and below links to Sid, Montana and New Orleans likely on the Gophers' schedule, as well as Lamar. Note that New Orleans is ineligible for the Southland and NCAA tournaments due to APR shortcomings. Montana joins South Dakota State as opponents that played in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. It's a pretty safe bet SDSU won't repeat now that Nate Wolters has moved on to the NBA Draft, but NDSU likely will fill the RPI gap nicely as one of the Summit League favorites (along with newbie Denver) once the preseason mags hit the newsstands this fall.

RPI of nonconference opponents is noted in parentheses.

MINNESOTA
Nov. ??: TBD -- Maui on Mainland
Nov. 25: vs. Arkansas (95)/Baylor (70)/Cal (53)/Chaminade/Dayton (114)/Gonzaga (6)/Syracuse (14) -- Maui Invitational

Dec. 3: **FLORIDA STATE (84) -- ACC/Big 10 Challenge

Date TBD: **@ Richmond (91)
Date TBD: SOUTH DAKOTA STATE (62)

Average RPI of Opponents (to date): 152.428

Unofficially, that leaves us with 2 nonconference games TBD, both likely to be played at Williams Arena.
