per the Alexandria Echo Press:

It was a bad first impression for Claeys as he tries to prove he can be the head coach of this program. With that established, he still deserves a shot to lead this team into the future.

The Gophers have been down this road before of cycling through coaches, and it seldom ends well. Finally, the team seems to be on stable footing, both academically and as a team that can at least compete in the Big Ten.

There is a huge mess within that athletic department right now ranging from a Title IX investigation and the fallout from Norwood Teague's resignation as the athletic director. There's a lot that needs fixing within the athletic department at the University of Minnesota, but finding a different coaching staff isn't one of them.

Claeys filled in admirably for Kill on the sidelines in 2013, going 4-3 as the acting head coach when Kill went up to the press box in an attempt to control his seizures. He's led a defense that has been one of the biggest reasons for back-to-back eight-win seasons.

Claeys had a bad day on Saturday. He still has proven over time that he deserves a shot at being the head coach of this team.

Go Gophers!!

Claeys had a very good game for 39:41 seconds. And my guess is that the Gophers would have scored 9 times out of 10 on the last play.

you are being harsh on claeys. we had a very good game plan for 59:41 of the game.

Hello!! Anyone home!!!! :>)

I watched the replay yesterday and there is no question that the Gophers played well enough to win. TC had them ready.

Lets roll Kaler.

The Alexandria Echo Press is usually my go to when it comes to coaching searches.

When it comes to assessing Claeys for the HC position, judging Claeys on 19 seconds of time mismanagement is folly. As is judging him on the other 59:41 of one game.

Let's see how the team responds in the final 4 games.

Hey....at least they're paying attention out there!

The Gophers played fantastic vs. Michigan. We can assume Claeys played an important part in that in preparing the team and in building a great D over the past years. But to say he coached well in the game is confusing. Claeys said several times that during the game Sawvel called the D and Limey called the O. As far as I could tell, each time the camera focused on Claeys he wasn't saying anything. My guess is that Claeys had little impact in the actual game itself. We know he put in Santoso to punt and was somehow involved in the final 19 seconds. We can assume he had the final say on all 4th downs whether to punt, go for it, kick a field goal, etc. I'm sure he worked the refs a little, gave the halftime talk. What did he do the other 59:41 to significantly impact the game? My guess: not much. And yes, I do want him as our next head coach.

He only had three days to get a new coaching "system" in place, meaning responsibilities, communications, etc. That's gonna bite a team
in the a$$ at some point, and it did in those final 19 seconds.

Fix that, and they are, and I think they'll be fine.

Claeyes outright said he made the adjustments on defense when they were finding ways to move the ball. He was very involved with the D and he will be more involved with the offense as time goes on. The blame for the shifts and motions play is essentially all on Limegrover. As time goes on we can blame Claeyes...

Good point.

Fiasco? Is that what they are calling driving 74 yards in the last minute against the top ranked defense in the country to put themselves in position to beat a 2 touchdown favorite? Interesting.
