Take this for what it's worth:

Could be the end of PSU relevance.

I'm thinking Al Golden will do OK at Penn State. However, I don't think he'll do considerably better than Bill O'Brien did or ever return to the dominance days of Paterno.

I thought this was a gopher board.
If I want to read about the Lions I can go to there board.

Don't understand the appeal of Golden. He did well at Temple, but his national relevance at UM was only a result of recruiting rankings and preseason polls. He wasn't much different from Shannon in that regard.

I also think it's funny that PSU is pursuing a coach who's last game was a pretty embarrassing drubbing.

I'm not sure how true this is because his interview got pushed back till tomorrow because of weather. Penn State is interviewing Mike Munchak today and James Franklin and Al Golden tomorrow.

I got this information from football scoop.

What he did at Temple was nothing short of amazing. They got KICKED OUT of the Big East (which was no super power conference) for sucking so bad at football. He took a team that would have done fine at the MIAC level and turned them into a pretty darn good program. Being an independent with no prior history in football, it was not a great school to recruit to. Golden did it and turned them into a really respectable school. Now why he hasn't done better at Miami with all the pluses that school has going for it, I'm not sure. But his time at Temple should not be downplayed...
