I haven't watched the game yet (travelling) but I read the play by play on yahoo. Shortell needs to get more of an opportunity. The problem is the offense; it lacks confidence, leadership, and rhythm. Shortell may not be the answer but he needs to get opportunities equivalent to what Gray has had so far.
Everybody ripping on the defense, it has given up 23 points per game this year vs. 33 points per game last year. Ya, their not the greatest but their giving up 10 points a game less than last year. That's a big improvement. Did people expect the defense to go from giving up 33 to giving up less than 20?
Kill has wanted to do everything he can to give Gray an opportunity and CONFIDENCE (because of the P word - potential), but he can only do that for so long and tonight we saw that. I hope Shortell keeps getting opportunities and I hope he learns a lot and develops because I just don't think this team goes anywhere with Gray getting the bulk of the work, this year or next. Use them both, but give Max at least half of the offensive series if not a little more. I hope that's what happens and hopefully it will help Gray.
I still look forward to watching this team the rest of the year and I still love coach Kill. Keep your heads up Golden Gophers, this team will continue to fight and will get better and won't quit until the final whistle of the final game. The future is still bright.
