I can't say much more about Saturday than most others already have on here. Debacle, ineptitude, and pathetic are each words that seem appropriate but don't quite measure the depth of my frustration.

Most troubling to me is that I am a diehard Gopher fan. I've seldom missed a game in the last ten years through all the ups and devastating downs. I walked away from the stadium Saturday wondering why I had wasted a beautiful day on that pathetic display of ineptitude, even wondering why I've committed to an annual Gopher football road trip with friends.

I won't miss any games this year because the players deserve support from the fans and, well, because I've already paid for the tickets. But my enthusiasm, MY enthusiasm, which is sky high entering every single season as an optimist that this just might be the year, feels just a little short of crushed.

If you know me personally, you will know how significant of a statement that is.

That said, I still believe Minnesota can build a great football program. Whether with this coach or the next or the one after that, I believe eventually it will happen. And with that in mind, I don't think there's any choice but to rally behind Gopher football. That is why I'm letting you know that I'm going to do my part and join the Goal Line Club this week.

I'm going to support my team the rest of the year through whatever comes next week and the week after, and the weeks following. I hope you'll join me.

I'll join the GLC when they fire Brewster.

But see, that attitude is part of the problem. The GLC is a separate organization that is there to support Gopher Football, regardless of the coach. Without a strong GLC, I don't think we can get to the next level. That's why I joined. WITH a strong GLC come resources for the program and higher expectations.

Was apart of the GLC last year.. and missed my opportunity to renew (mainly because I've been laid off since I joined last year and still haven't rebounded financially yet). But it is something that's completely worth the money!

HAHA! we can get there without a strong GLC. I wonder if the 10-20 teams that will make huge improvements this year will do it because their own GLC's strength improved. I applaud you for joining, just saying that I won't until i see better decisions at the top of the program first.

You're protesting decisions made by the U of M by boycotting an organization that isn't part of the U of M, yet if it was stronger might have some influence over the U of M. That's where I see flawed reasoning.

You don't get it. The GLC is not part of the school so I'm not sure what logic you are using to say "I won't join until I see better decisions at the top of the program first." Are you saying you don't care for the decisions that the president of the GLC has made? I suspect not. Anyway, regarding your comment about the need (or lack thereof) of having a strong GLC to have a strong program, you are dead wrong. EVERY big time program has a VERY strong booster club. The more true fans who join and support the GLC, the better it is for the long term health of the program.

Exactly. It seems counterintuitive at the surface to join the GLC at this dark hour, but it's actually very logical.

This is pretty much the horse's ass attitude of Minnesotans everywhere. They will start going to games and supporting the Gopher's when the team starts winning Big 10 Championships.

So for those of us who don't know, can someone tell us the benefits of joining the goal line club and what you need to do to join?

I just joined two weeks ago. I did it because business has gotten a little better. But I also was thinking we had in place a coaching staff and philosophy that would work (well??). Do I regret it - not at all. I am in this thing for the long haul. Like to think the group is part of the solution not part of the problem.

Year of the Gopher!....

Where the h**l do you get off trying to be part of the solution:mad:

Its guys like you that will help this program improve over the years and leave the rest of us with nothing to bi**h and groan about :( Have you ever noticed that after a big loss, there are 30 brand-new posters on this board :) Without those big losses we would completely lose our fan base - especially the all-important bandwagon fan. I can only shake my head at you in dissapointment.

BTW - welcome to the club ;)

My feelings exactly. I will continue to support this team at the level I've always supported them, but my feelings for the coach and his staff have changed. I respect the position he's in and want the Gophers to be successful under his leadership.

My neighbor is a GLCer and he's been encouraging me to join. I may take that step in the future.

I joined last spring. It's $50 and most of the money goes to help the program. You get some pretty good coupons for the U of M bookstore and Goldy's Lockerroom. Plus you get discount rates on all of their events. If you join at the highest level you get everythign for free. Pre-game tailgate, spring game, signing day, etc. I think the weekly luncheons too.

So for those of us who don't know, can someone tell us the benefits of joining the goal line club and what you need to do to join?

Yes, you can join at www.goallineclub.com

There are a couple levels of membership. I joined at the maroon level for now and will look at upgrading to the gold level possibly as soon as next year. At the maroon level, you get discounts to GLC events including tailgates and luncheons plus discounts on travel packages and local restaurants and stores. Plus you're helping the program.

Last year my friends and I went to the Iowa game and paid as non-members to tailgate with the GLC. We had a great time. One of the benefits to me is belonging to a group you can hook up with for road tailgating. Plus you're helping the program.

At the gold level, you get free admission to all those events I mentioned above (luncheons, tailgates, plus chalk talk events. Plus, you're helping the program.

Did I mention that you're helping the program? There is a list here of what the GLC has done for the program over the last few years. http://www.goallineclub.com/pages/annual_gifts.php

I joined about 5-6 years ago and wish I would have joined sooner. Its a good time and its a great way to support my favorite football team.
