Me? not so much cuz my loins were girded! Cock of the walk i was!

Indeed I did. Went schizo. One part of my brain was saying "Not again" while the other was saying "It's early."

I do not recall a softer 20 yd out up the middle run than that 1st UNLV TD. He took the ball and didn't have anyone within 5-10 yds.

I was honestly more nervous in the 4th Q when we were up 14, gave up the ball on the 33 yard line instead of pinning them deep and they managed to drive down to the redzone. I was thinking "Oh crap, this isn't over. If they score here it's a 1 possession game and our offense hasn't done jack in the 2nd half." Then came the pick-6 and we coasted from there.

I was really disappointed in our opening defensive and offensive series. But it was hot and the team was jacked up. I am extremely confident our team destroys New Mexico and looks great doing it.

My thoughts also, a lot of whining on the other threads for being the first game though. The first thing I wanted to see turn around when Kill came in was for this team to do well in NC play and putting up 50 points in the first game is a good start.

Come on w.w. ; that's was the happiest moment of the night for you, well maybe second to UNLV being "ahead" at the Half! :D

UNLV was ahead at the half? it was 16-13 Minny. the opponent scoring first sht has to end.

Exactly. They score there and it's a different game entirely.

Don't believe your eyes.

The scoreboard said that to be sure. But I called a Gopher fan out in Las Vegas at the half, and between bitching he assured me that whatever that "damned scoreboard said" the Gophers lost the First Half.

Judging by the tepid applause at the end of the Half, he convinced me. The Gophers were down at the end of two quarters.

That "damned scoreboard" is the only thing that matters.

Very honest, very true and very accurate point. The crowd at the game and here on Gopherhole seems to disagree and wait!what was fervently hoping it was wrong.

I was pretty tense that whole first half, but had my level-headed buddy telling me all will be fine after halftime adjustments.

They were so tight the first few drives.

They could hardly move.

It's not so much that UNLV scored... it was HOW they scored. A simple run up the middle with a hole wide enough to fit the Starship Enterprise through with no Gopher within' a 10 yard diameter was a little nauseating...

WHY don't we credit UNLV a little bit?

My thoughts on UNLV's first drive were: Wow, these guys are executing their
game plan to perfection. The tackle to stop them on third down was a play we have not
been making. But they gambled on fourth down and we didn't stuff it.
I think we need to give UNLV some credit.

We won! We have lots to fix. Great situation after game one.

I always have negative thoughts even though I am optimistic enough to think things will improve; schizophrenia is common among CFB fans of non-helmet schools.

I was less concerned about the one play, and more worried about the fact that they managed to drive the way they did and pick our corners apart. I might have even stayed concerned if we hadn't absolutely p*ss pounded them the rest of the way.

That didn't concern me until the 2nd Half because I figured we would play a little Prevent D to see what UNLV's new OC has to offer but when we were still 7-10 yards off the ball deep into the 3rd it did raise an eyebrow...

I can't say we piss pounded them the rest of the way either tho because outside of the 3 big plays that cost them, both teams were pretty evenly matched wouldn't you say?

They won 2 games I believe playing in a non BCS conference, that is bad, so no, they dont deserve credit, as for the game I was a little disappointed and I did not feel like we looked great, I never had any dought that we would lose, I knew we would win for the entire game if this was a good team and we didn't have those 3 touchdowns from turnovers or special teams we would have lost, I don't want to rely on that type of scoring to beat an opponent, that is very inconsistent and you can't count on doing that every game, I would be a lot more pleased with our performance if we scored 50 points with long consistent 80 yard drives instead of big plays, good offenses are capable of doing that like Wisconsin, I also was disappointed with how our defense got worked on the opening drive, the marched straight down the field like it was nobody's business and scored, I was happy that we won but felt we could have played better

Nah and my posts in the game thread is evidence. Never doubted we would win this game going away (also see my predict the score).

My posts in the game thread were mostly reactions to a couple of guys' constant negative comments about players and/or a certain play. I got a scolding from GH Admin in a PM telling me that there were complaints of me bullying. Oh well.

Bullying? You've got to be kidding me. You did nothing wrong, and I stand by your comments.

You got my vote too Dr.Don. At the Goal Line lunch, I was told by people from the athletic department that they don't think much of the GopherHole with its negativity and whining. There are certainly reasons to be critical but the negativity and whining is just bad. You don't see much of that kind of behavior at The Daily Gopher.

How ironic... I had lunch with a few fans & they didn't think much of the product on the field...

Im sorry Don...I can't stop laughing after reading this...too funny. You are the best...forget the whiners.
