Seems you can always find an answer here. Were there differences in admission standards for scholarship athletes between the Big 12 and Big 10? I had always thought so. If so will that change Nebraska's ability to recruit?

Nebraska complained bitterly and often that Texas and the SWC schools didn't have to meet Big Eight admissions standards when the merger took place. That would make one assume that Nebraska will be fine with Big 10 standards.

Somewhat correct, there have been Big XII debates ad naseum regarding Nebraska's bitterness at the time of the creation of the Big XII that partial qualifiers would no longer be allowed. Nebraska wanted to keep them, Texas forced the issue to get rid of partial qualifiers. On the other hand, the SWC schools were notorious for their admissions standards for athletes. Outside of that though, the SWC schools were bastions of academic excellence compared to the Big Eight schools. NCAA changes have eliminated the partial qualifier issue and I am certain that the Big Ten Presidents would not admit Nebraska unless they met certain minimum standards, so I don't think there will be any go-forward issues. That said, no one should mistake Nebraska's academic record with Texas, Texas A&M or ANY other school in the Big Ten. While they have a nice athletic program, they need to improve their academics significantly to meet even the lowest Big Ten standards.

I always thought because of the way the Huskers loudly complained, and Texas coming from the scandal racked SWC, that it was Nebraska that wanted to hold to higher standards. After doing more research, you're exactly right.

Here's a good outline of the demise of the SWC. Texas looked at the Pac 10 and the the Big Ten before turning to the Big Eight.
