Two tweets from Rittenberg:

"Decision coming soon. Heard Jerry Kill is possible RT @WordOnTheTweets: any word on the #Gophers FB coach search? Rumor mill says Edsall."

"So many names in the Minnesota search, hard to keep track of them all. Been told more than a few coaches have turned them down."

Go Gophers!!

Those comments sound like he is two days behind and hasn't heard more then we have.

Adam Rittenberg is the exact type of guy who has been throwing out names. ESPN tells him he has a job to do, but he has no real insight.

Kill=TCF becoming a morgue. Ticket base will dwindle to the 55 and over crowd giving us 20,000 attendances. Too many smart people at the U who wouldn't allow that hire to go through. I hope.

Not exactly freaking out, but thanks for the input.

Predicting 4 more years of poor play based on the Tweet of a non-local media member referencing a coach who's had nothing but success at every level he's coached even though no one actually knows whether he is our coach or not...I'm mistaken, its really more of a ridiculous overreaction than a freakout. My bad.

He's not really a name thrower. In fact, all he's really done is reference the other media tweets for the most part. He's just not plugged in (not that we should expect him to be since he's not local and has no U ties).

I'd rather have Chryst, if we're being totally honest.

Regardless, I'll show up even if it's Trestman.

Part of your soul just died, didn't it?

Yeah, the self-hate meter is pretty well maxed out right now.

Not sure if Chryst>Kill is a legitimate take; but it's my sentiment at the moment. Willing to be persuaded otherwise if Kill is the guy.

Of course they've been turned down by coaches. Every school except for maybe a few of the helmet schools are turned down by candidates. Didn't Gruden just turn down Miami? If Maturi didn't ask coaches that we thought would turn them down then I would be pissed. Swing for the fences and maybe you get lucky.

I'd rather have Monty Brewster (none of the above). If Jerry Kill is the best we can do, just shut the program down.

I was not commenting on the validity of the tweet - I was voicing my opinion ( I can do that here right??) on the success of the named coach.

I want the Gophers to win and I don't think that Kill is the guy. We'll see.

Well, since the only reason to worry about Kill is the tweet since his name hasn't really been coming up much...

Kill doesn't excite me either, but this 4 more years of misery reaction (and this isn't just you, its a bunch of different folks regarding a bunch of different coaches) is just silly when no coach has been, ya know, hired.

As long as we're referencing coaches who we don't know are hired, I want everyone to know that Nick Saban makes me smile for the national title we'll have in 4 years.

And yes, I'm being a snarky SOB. Thread after thread of this Chicken Little stuff is getting old.

Rittenberg is a complete tool. His job is to follow the Big Ten. Apparently that means focus on OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska. Anything related to Minnesota is a Re-Tweet. I guess I shouldn't expect much from someone from Chicago.

Gopher_Nutz: Adam writes plenty on the Gophers... when he's on 1500-ESPN, his knowledge of the Gophers is solid... you can tell that he does his homework, talks to coaches, etc... and he does have the ESPN pipeline -- Schad, Maisel, etc. to lean on for nuggets... hard to completely dismiss.

Jerry Kill is about the level of hire i'd expect to get after the Brewster experience. It will not be the excitingly sexy hire, but it would be a good hire in the long run. Kill is a very good coach.

True, but like his analysis of bowl game selections and division alignments, Minnesota doesn't "move the needle" like OSU, Michigan, et al. Until we start kicking ass again some day, we will be an also ran like Indiana in terms of coverage.

Doogie: I find it funny that a guy who's job is to stay on top of the Big Ten doesn't have more information on a Big Ten's team coaching search. He seems to have more on the Indiana search than the Minnesota search. And that seems to be the case with all of the media.

For sure... I won't dispute that, and heck, who can blame him?

Maturi & Mona have done a great job of hiding info. I'd like to think a few of us have come up with nuggets... but in 7-weeks, the info. has been limited. Credit those two/Bruininks for that.

Because they did so well last time?
