"1. Troy Stoudermire, Minnesota, senior: Already a record-setting return man, Stoudermire needs only 16 kick returns and 189 kick return yards to set NCAA all-time records in both categories. Stoudermire has 2,929 kick return yards, recording 30 runbacks or more in each of the past three seasons. He averaged 27.2 yards on returns in 2010."

Go Gophers!!

This has to be one of the sneakiest assaults on an NCAA record ever. Troy will be fun to watch this year - at corner too.

That's prob because while he constantly gives the offense great field position but doesn't have a highlight reel KR where he houses it (the Illinois game last season was close).

I've heard how good Stoudermire is on kick returns, and the numbers support it, but to my eyes he's never been that impressive. I guess I must be wrong.

You don't achieve these type of numbers (especially the # of all time kick returns) if you aren't having to return kicks. The only reason to return many kicks is because your D has given up points. If we had a better defense in his tenure, Troy wouldn't be coming close to this record. It's like having a punter breaking records for number of career punts....cool for the kid, but an indictment of something gone wrong on one side of the ball.

Go Gophers!!

True Bleed, as far as sheer numbers, but even going on average, he's about as good as it gets for a return man. 27 yards a pop? Makes offense much easier, unfortunately, his work has often gone unrewarded as we end up punting anyway, or only taking away 3, but still, that's not on him.

It does hurt that he has yet to house a single one though, has quick burst speed, but not quite enough to make that final separation to finish it off.

Do you think special teams played better or improved under Horton? Just really wondering if Troy had an extra block or two when Horton was the coach?

Guess it is easy to play "what if ". I am just looking forward to all aspects of better play by Kill and staff!

Good point on more opportunities = record.

Gilreath in Wisconsin had big career numbers but had never housed one until the opening kick against OSU last year.

Maybe this year Troy can do te same to open the Big Ten home schedule against the 'Huskers!
