Look, I'm a man of traditions. I wear a kilt to the renfest, I watch It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas, and I dance the Mamushka at weddings.

Bottom line - my friend group has always erred on the side of being corny. Over the last three seasons, I've taken to dressing in a tie and formal wear for homecoming. I mostly started this because I like feeling like an old-timey football fan.

I wouldn't want to dress well everyday, because damn, sweatpants let a man move with ease. But that said, every once and a while it's nice not to slob it up.

The SEC fans often dress well for every gameday, and I certainly don't want to do that - most of my Gopher gear firmly falls in the "active wear" category.

But all that said, here's my playful nudge to consider treating Homecoming as an event, and class it up however that looks for you. For some, that might simply mean getting mustard stains out before the game. I actually up leveled for this year, and I'll have a three piece suit, because I'm still hoping for a walk-on offer.

I just need some sort of classic fedora and a curled up newspaper to clench. Cigar is a hard no in this era of no fun that we live in, but I carry one in spirit.

Anyway, hope to see you ditch the hoodies for one game, and dress like it's 1947.

I like the idea.

Years ago (metrodome era) for homecoming there were some students in the front row of the student section like that. They were dressed in old time tweed jackets, hats, pipes. The gophers would make a good play and they'd put them on the jubmotron politely clapping ;)

Love it!
Def need to get a pipe!

Are you the driving crooner???

OP I fully support you in this endeavor but will not be participating. I promise to at least wear my nice sweatpants though.

Don't worry, I'm gonna get right next to you so it looks real!
Did you see "Friendship"? If you like his absurdist humor, I'd say it's a dead lock for you enjoying it.

I personally love the dude. My gal and I constantly quote the show to each other ("you sure about that?")
