I have a friend who works in the Southern Miss athletic department, so with all this Fedora talking going on, I texted him. Take this with a grain of salt, but figured I would add what I could.

I asked if he could confirm that Fedora was interviewing in Minnesota for the job.

"All I know is that he was in Hattiesburg for an 11:45am (CST) press conference today."

He then went on to tell me it was a regularly scheduled press conference.

A few minutes later, I got another text saying "His Expedition is in the athletic center department parking lot right now."

So who the heck knows what's right?

I obviously don't know you and can't vouch for credibility of your source but with this and the press conf stuff, it appears that the Fedora stuff is probably completely false.

The plot thickens.

Thanks for the update. Anybody with any knowledge of this crazy situation is appreciated.

damn, is it that cold in the twin cities that the guy would need to put an expedition together. It's not like he's Byrd

What's there to call out? Fedora's in the mix. Twitter is great for rumors. He was either here already, or will be here soon. So, he isn't here now... yes, he's in Hattiesburg... that specific info. was off, but doesn't mean that he's not in the running.

I agree with Doogie...this doesn't mean he is NOT in the running. I just wanted to try and find out if he was here today and we happened to have a candidate from a school where I knew someone. I have no reason to make this up, but I just wanted to know for myself.

This past week has been crazy on here!

Joe Schmit would have been wrong though. He said Fedora was the visitor today not that he was merely in the mix. That seems like a pretty big step from "a possibility" to "in town from Southern Miss".

That said, I doubt Schmit did it just for attention. He either got bad information or it was wrong somewhere on the chain of information. But you can't really expect 100% accuracy in stories like this and especially in the day in age of twitterverse media. I am not complaining about it, I love getting the up to the minute rumors but I also know not to take anything for more than face value.

On point one (What's there to call out? Fedora's in the mix); I agree with you after going back to the original post. I thought Schmit was saying that he was CURRENTLY in town - which now appears impossible.

On point two (Twitter is great for rumors), I agree if we're talking about me tweeting my opinion or my speculation. When a journalist tweets something, the are laying their journalistic reputation on the line.

He actually never tweeted that, he specifically tweeted:

New leader in the #Gophers search? Larry Fedora-Mississippi State- 95% sure he visited UM campus.48 years old, 8-3 this yr-OC at Fla/Ok St.

He said "visited". I think the ties were made cause I think Doogie made mention of there being a candidate in town today. But Joe did not specifically tweet that Fedora was in town today. That leads me to my thought of, is there still a candidate in town today or not?

Joe never said Fedora was in town today, that was someone else....Here is his exact tweet (note that it does not mention today):

New leader in the #Gophers search? Larry Fedora-Mississippi State- 95% sure he visited UM campus.48 years old, 8-3 this yr-OC at Fla/Ok St.

Tom Dienhart just said this of Fedora "He is NOT in Minnesota and is NOT the next Gopher coach."

Crazy... so, in other words, great for business:)

Oops, well then I suppose I am wrong and that I should be called out on my inaccuracies...:)

Did you even read his tweet Doogie?

"95% sure he visited UM campus"

Epic fail. It's possible Fedora visited earlier or will visit in the future, but that is a different matter.

So who the heck knows what's right?

If it is a company car of course it would be in the athletic center parking lot. How would it look to take the company car to the airport to go on an interview for another job. He took a cab obviously. Rumor therefore confirmed.

"95% sure he visited UM campus"

Epic fail. I'm 100% certain Joe and Doogie don't understand what it takes to become 95% certain of something.

I am not in the office today, so it's possible that Joe is hearing that Fedora was here yesterday... I know this much: Joe's sources, after 30+ years on TV here, are as good as it gets.

Does anybody think Maturi is reading this board laughing his butt off at all the ways we are going.

I'm telling you the guy is one sneaky sneak - more than we gave him credit for.

Your right I should have clarified. The rumor of the day was he was here today.

Remember, Joe said he's 95% sure that Fedora visited. I'm 95% sure that I'm unsure about Joe being sure.

Just so I understand...

When Joe Schmitt says something on KSTP, it's a fact--- but when Joe Schmitt says something on Twitter, it might be BS?

What if I hear him on the radio? Or see him in person? Or he is doing a phoner for KSTP so I can hear his voice but not necessarily see his face?
