It doesn't always work out when you use the portal to transfer to a blueblood. Sometimes their five-star recruit is better than you right out of the gate. Maybe Hughes should have gone to a program like the U of M where he would be more likely to be lead back or at least split carries. Now, whatever plan he had is pushed back by a year. Football careers are short especially at running back!

"Hughes was the No. 1 running back and No. 6 overall player in ESPN's transfer rankings and joined from Tulane in the offseason after a 1,401-yard, 17-touchdown campaign in 2024. After earning first-team honors in the American Athletic Conference in back-to-back years, Hughes was expected to be a key part of No. 2-ranked Oregon's rushing attack.

Through four games with the Ducks, however, Hughes' role has been limited. He has carried the ball 17 times for 70 yards and has yet to score a touchdown. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound redshirt junior from Alabama did not travel to Oregon's most recent game at then-No. 3 Penn State, which the Ducks, ranked No. 6 at the time, won in overtime."

Phillip Daniels took a risk transferring to Ohio State, there was no guarantee he'd start and I know the competition was fierce. He never does it if it isn't his home state. Glad it worked out for him.

On the other hand, look at Koi. He could have gone to Ohio State and just been another guy. Instead, he chose the Gophers and is highlighted all over the field and gets the majority of the attention from the local fan base and the media. Every time I listen to a national broadcast, he's the guy they bring up first or second when discussing the Gophers. That would NOT be the case at OSU. He wouldn't be returning punts there. They have a five star doing that. He wouldn't be playing WR. The top safety in the nation, Caleb Downs, has one safety spot locked down. He'd be in a dog fight right now with a bunch of other four and five stars trying to get playing time at that other safety spot either outright or in a rotation. Where is he getting better development and being allowed to show his versatility? Hands down at the U of M.

I think Oregon knows things don't work out. They pick up a bunch of guys and if they don't work out they transfer out. Oregon is ok with this.

This dude was so far down the chart that he didn't even travel to Penn St. Oregon isn't losing any sleep over this guy moving on.

Exactly right. They gave a starting LB from Iowa $100,000 just to visit and he was coming off a significant injury. He went there, got hurt again, and rode the bench.

They got the money to throw at players.
