Saw this too - completely blows my mind. How does the first person to dribble the ball or especially shoot the ball not emphatically say something to the ref (Bruce said his guys did but they must not have done so very strongly)? They are so different that it should be immediately obvious to anyone use to handling a bb.
 

Those refs will struggle to get major gigs now. That is on the refs completely. How do they not check the ball before the game? 7th grade girls basketball refs check to make sure they have the right type of ball.
 

I will never check the refs' balls!!!!
 




Note that the other team was killing Illinois with the mini ball.
