I don't even want to discuss another joke of a performance and yet another inexcusable home loss by Tubby's team. I just hope that record, 6-12, spurs major changes by next fall: coaching philosophy changes, coaching staff changes, and roster changes. The status quo is nowhere near good enough.

4-5 at Home...Sad

Agree 100%. I'm not optimistic for next year with this crew coming back. This is the worst team since the season Monson was fired. Guys like Mav, Hollins, Chip, these aren't upper tier B10 type players. These are the type of guys Monson was recruiting.

Geeeez.

These are three FR you are talking about, less than a year out of HS. Can you give them a couple years?

Hollins can play in the Big 10, no doubt. I think Armelin can as well. Mav should be a backup.

6 wins in only a couple better than Iowa. That tells the story. El Tubster needs to find an offense.

How about the Gophers flip it to 12-6 next year?

Good target, anyway.

the way college basketball is set up now with the 1 and dones FR need to be able to contribute right away. Louisville, Kentucky, Ohis St and Michigan seemed to do just fine with freshmen getting a lot of minutes. Minnesota's FR just do not have the type of ability to be a factor at this point. will they at some point? time will tell but next year as it looks today will be more of the same as we saw this year.

I would not hold my breath for Tubby the change his coaching philosophy.
He will be the first to tell you that his system will work if the players just
do it the right way. Tubby FIRMLY believes in his system and for better
or worse as long as Tubby is the coach of Minn. you are going to see that
same system played.

I'm flabbergasted with this loss and where this team is right now. Not trying to make this a bitch session; just trying to wrap my brain around this thing. It does help to talk about it. At this moment in time, the Gophers are the worst team in the Big Ten. Yipes, it hurts just typing that. How did we get to this point? Are we really that bad? Did Al's loss really make the difference between potentially a 4th place team and the worst-playing squad in the conference? Is that even possible? Is the line between winning and losing really that thin? How much is going on that we don't know about? Who writes the songs that make the whole world sing? So many questions!!

Flabbergasted or some other uninvented word sums it up.

I'm with you Bad Gopher. I may tend towards optimism too often... I seriously thought that we were going to end this season with a 4-0 stretch. I wasn't just thinking this, I told numerous people that this was my prediction. With the 0-4 ending to the season you can imagine I'm looking like quite the fool to all of my friends. Words cannot express my level of flabbergastation. I agree with those that feel that the loss of Al has nothing to do with this latest skid since our win at Iowa. There is no excuse for our lack of clutchness down the stretch. I'm finding myself inventing new words to describe this new level of ineptitude.... this is amazing. I can't even go on.... I'm sorry.

Next year is not going to be much better IMO. We lose our only reliable shooter, only reliable PG, and possibly our dominating low post presence. Unless Andre Hollins is the next Derrick Rose and TM decides to stick around, we're not going to be a whole lot better. We'd better hope guys like Darius Morris and Jordan Taylor inexplicably opt for the NBA.

Well, it's always darkest before the dawn, right? Um, right?

I'd love to be more positive - but just looking at the roster its hard to see a huge bump up. The only saving grace is that the BT as a whole is probably going to be down next year, but we need some shooters desperately. Coleman is not a marksman, so we'd better hope An. Hollins is the real deal or we use our 3rd scholly on a shooter or we're going to be facing the same issues in 2012.

the way college basketball is set up now with the 1 and dones

How many freshmen are brought into colleges around the country every year?
How many freshmen are 1 and dones?

Not many....there is less than 20 one and dones every season. That is less than 2% of recruits.

Even in the Big 6 conferences....lets say there are 20 one and dones (there aren't)....

There are 73 schools in Big 6 conferences....lets say conservatively there are 2.4 scholarships given away per year per school.....lets say liberally there are 20 one and dones every season.....That is like 11% of recruits going one and done.

Last year there were 9
4 were from Kentucky

So 72 schools x 2.4 scholarships per school = 172.8

4/172.8= 2.3% of recruits from Big 6 conferences excluding Kentucky were one and dones.......but wait, there is more......Not all of those guys were from Big 6 conferences...so it doesn't make sense to only include Big 6 teams in the conversation.

345 schools (excluding Kentucky) x 2.4 scholarships per school = approx 828 scholarships given out in a given year

Keep in mind that I am approximating....but last season, excluding Kentucky, .00483 players were one and dones.

If it makes anyone feel better, throughout Tubby's career, he's performed his best when his back is up against the wall and the supposed 'all hope is lost' meme seeps through. His best seasons have been the seasons when his teams weren't expected to do anything. And ironically, his worst seasons as head coach has been the seasons with the highest expectations. It happened at Kentucky and it's happened at the U. I can't explain it, but it's definitely been that way. So knowing Tubby's history, next year might be a pleasant surprise for everyone.

Agreed. Specifically:

1993 at Tulsa = 15-14.
1994 at Tulsa = 23-8 and Sweet 16.

1996 at Georgia = 21-10 with 8 seniors.
1997 at Georgia = 24-9 (school record W).

2002 at UK = 22-10 (7 HS A-A on roster).
2003 at UK = 32-4 and #1 ranking.

It has happened before elsewhere.

Matt Painter at Purdue:

2006 = 9-19.
2007 = 22 W.

So, I think what you're trying to say Ky is that we're going to shock the world and win the Big Ten tournament and take Gopher nation to Pasadena....

Northwestern.... Dead, Ohio State..... Dead......We're comin..!!!1... we're comin...!!!!..

I'm not sure this is true. Sure the OSU/Kentucky model of bringing in four top 20 players for a season or maybe two is one way to do it. We can't do it that way, obviously. But why can't you win by relying on six upperclassmen? We would've been just fine this season if we had stayed healthy and in school (and better than that if just one of our bigs could score reliably on the block). We had a one-and-done a few years back and it was our worst season in 20 years. The Sullingers of the world are great if you can get them, but you can do it without them, too.
