Myron's blog for the game tonight-

I'll just list the first and link the rest:

The Gophers have every reason to be excited about a trip to Puerto Rico later this week, but they can't overlook Siena, a team they'll face Monday night at Williams Arena. A few questions to consider:

1. Should Trevor Mbakwe start?

Oui (French). Ne (Greek). Ndiyo (Swahili). Si (Spanish). Yoh (Yiddish).

Not sure how many ways I can say yes to one of the most significant questions for the Gophers. The answer seems so obvious.

Team X struggles for three years against squads with inside threats because it lacks the kind of physical power forward to neutralize those challenges. Team X recruits a 6-8 power forward with strength and bulk. He records a double-double in his first game and looks like one of the top two players on the team to most observers..

I know Tubby Smith uses the platoon substitution system. And he's more concerned about who finishes the game. But this is a team that needs its best guys on the floor at the start of a game. They're not very good at digging themselves out of holes. And Mbakwe's rebounding, defense and scoring will help them avoid early deficits.

Mbakwe is a game-changer. He belongs in that starting five.

I vote for Myron and Gopherlady to coach the Gophers next season since they know so much about basketball. I have a feeling that Tubby doesn't know what he is doing. I wish these clueless people would let the coaches do what they do and leave these kids' ego untouched. Do not destroy the team's chemistry with your stupid posts/comments Myron.

If you don't understand the game (Myron) you can just write about who should start and who will make it to the NBA.

Useless Myron blog, but hey check him out his live chat, listen to him on kfan and check him out on WCCO. Next he will be bragging that his on a boat. He's just 2 kool.

You all make valid points about leaving the coaching to Tubby, but Trevor should start over Iverson. I agree with Myron on that one. Trevor can do everything Colton does...only better.

if Sienna is a big outside shooting team, Tevor seems a bit deficient in that area defensively right now, so maybe bring him in second and see his response

lets just got freaking huge with mbakwe iverson and sampson, lets see them cover all three at once.

Are you saying Brewster should never have be questioned either? No coach is perfect and they ALL make mistakes and all deserve to be questioned, this includes Coach K and Coach Cal.

If there is a last second shot and Tubby draws the play up for Mav (no disrespect to him intended, but he's obviously not the guy you'd have take that shot) I would hope that people aren't on here arguing, "Well, Tubby's the coach. He obviously made the right call. I know Blake was wide open, but if you are so smart then you coach the team!" ... coaches, no matter their record, are not immune to being criticized or questioned.

I personally agree Trevor should start, but the main point is every time someone questions a coach, regardless how you personally feel about the issue, the go-to response should never be, "if you are so smart, YOU coach the team!" ... Am I not allowed to question politicians, professors, bosses, etc then too? Because they are in a higher status position does not mean that they know everything, all of the time, regardless of their past record, and that I should blindly follow and agree with them. I am sure Tubby has his reasons for starting Colton and I don't think Myron is saying, "Tubby sucks! I should coach this team, I am so great!" he is just saying, he personally feels Trevor should start.

Congratulations, you guys are excellent Myron bashers.

Myron has enough influence to destroy the team's chemistry? Interesting...

The same way over on the football board, many feel Gray should start, and people absolutely responded with, "Brewster is the coach, he knows what he's doing ..."

No I am not saying that he is perfect. What I am saying is that posts like this will go into the players' heads and they stop playing with the same interest. Trevor is a great player but if you saw the games in Canada, you could have seen that he was not ready to start. We had some of the best games last year when Colt and Ralph were on the court at the same time. Tubby is the coach and maybe he thinks that combination of Trevor and Ralph may not work or...... I don't know. I am not the coach but I do trust him and will not compare him with people like Brewster either.

By the way, as I have said several times, I have watched Tubby's teams for many years. Starting lineup means nothing in his coaching. He always looks for a winning combination. If a walk-on player plays well in practice, he may start even in March.

Like I said, stop playing with these kids' minds.

I can understand why Tubby starts Colton over Ralph, Colton has been with the program and in big games for 2 years already. Trevor hasn't played D1 basketball consistently in a long time. I think we are fine regardless who starts, I'd prefer Trevor though. That's just me. I don't think you can disallow people from questioning a coach for who he starts and who he sits or anything else.

I am not saying Tubby shouldn't be coach or that I'd be a better coach than him or anything at all. But I I think as fans we should be allowed to question the coach and discuss their decisions. It's part of the debate and part of being a fan. I don't think Myron was implying Colton is not talented nor that he is not definitely an important player on this team, but when Trevor has NBA potential, it's hard not to argue for him to be starting.

The fact that it is an argument though should be a testament to the quality of both players and this team. When we know Tubby's starting 5 is very talented, to think their are at least two bench players we think might be even better??? That's not a bad situation to be in.

Matt Cassell never started a game for USC, when they started Palmer and Lienert over him, I hope he didn't think he wasn't that good, because of the talent around him ... No one is saying Colton shouldn't start (i.e. he is bad - because he's not) it's simply Trevor is so good to a lot of people, that he should start.

Too many post on this one. I will only say, it's not who starts, it's who get the minutes. Trevor had more minutes than Colt the other night so it should not matter that he is not starting.

first... its Siena.

second... Siena is kind of in the same position. Siena needed to get a PG to replace Ronald Moore... who lead the nation in insists last year by a wide margin. They get Brookins and he played VERY well in our first game when he got on the floor... yet our coach will go again with the guy who was getting beat off the dribble all night because hes a Junior and doesnt turn the ball over that much. If you arent turning the ball over but arent doing much else... thats not a real plus to your team especially at the point.

Ralph-Colt is still a great combo, much like Colt-Trevor and Trevor-Ralph.

We are in good shape, trust Tubby to make the starting & ending line-up's.

Thanks for the insight, it will make the game more fun to watch. FromTheBarn gave a pretty good Gopher overview on your website. Gophers are BIG, athletic and usually play good defense. Best chance for Siena is to try and make anyone but Blake hit from outside. Even so, Gophers will go for the rebounds. The Barn is a tough venue for a inexperienced team. Good luck on the rest of your games.

thanks, and to you guys as well.

Check my post over in the other thread for a breakdown of our roster. Its going to be interesting because we have a pretty good front line for a midmajor but nothing like what you folks have.

Brookins will cause some problems with his speed .. im hoping he gets the majority of the minutes at the point. Breeden is also pretty quick. Jackson and Rossiter are obviously the main characters of our team though.

something to watch if youre into it.. Wignot is STUPIDLY athletic. If he gets the opportunity (or even if he doesnt)... he will forcibly try to dunk on someone. He was a state champ high jumper so its kind of fun to watch. His BBall skills arent quite there though LOL. Martens, Jackson and Burdine are a few other high fliers.

I hope its entertaining if nothing else!

Looks like Tubby wanted to start Trevor too ...

Seriously Myron, stop referring to yourself in the 3rd person. We've known this is your account for some time now.

I don't doubt that Myron was here in 3rd person last year, but if Blizzard is it, he sure spends a lot of time posting links for his competition :)

Lol. Actually I think Myron P. Medcalf has his own account here. :)

I was actually kind of surprised this thread turned into an argument. I thought Myron made a few good points.
