5 Star QBs that aren't doing so hot

The Hunter Johnson transfer was something that concerned me but he has so far proven to be a bust at Northwestern. It seems like they always have a gritty can-do type QB so it is nice to see them with a bit of adversity from the QB position, for a change.

I felt the same way. I just assumed they'd get the kinda guy you described out of a former 5*, not so much it seems.

Yep, I was expecting a Nate Stanley, Clayton Thorson or Trevor Siemian caliber player. Not a First team All Big ten guys or conference POY but a very good/solid third team or honorable mention caliber QB. Johnson has been awful so far.

Yes, their last two QBs are in the NFL so that pretty much speaks for itself.

It might be a bit too early to write off Johnson as a failure but I'd say he is unlikely to deliver the same level of performances as the last two QBs.

As good as they are seems like (historically) it’s a coin flip on whether the blue chips pan out. Fields has lived up to the hype and looks really good while fellow blue chipper Patterson is regressing in front of our eyes and had a pretty horrible game at Wisconsin. Johnson hasn’t looked great so far but he doesn’t have the supporting cast Fields does (or Patterson). There was a reason Fitz started Green this at Stanford. Let’s hope he doesn’t figure things out this year.
