I apologize if this has been discussed, but I haven't perused all of the threads about the MSU game. However, why is the tip-off so early?

I have to bust my ass to get home by 6 for those games and I get out of work earlier than most people.

Does the Big Ten Network not realize that the casual fan will not be tuning into this game? Rotel might be annoyed by the lack of viewers for their queso ads.

Certainly is early, Early game for the Big Ten network compounded by the fact MIchigan is in the Eastern time zone. 6:30 game there.

The Big Ten Network would prefer to do the doubleheaders at 6pm and 8pm on Wednesdays, but enough schools complained that 8pm was too late that they were talked into making the Wednesday doubleheaders at 5:30pm/7:30pm so the 2nd game starts earlier than 8pm.

They've also made it a point to have the early game in the Eastern time zone so it starts 6:30 local time and have the nightcap in the Central Time zone so it starts locally at 7:30pm.

This is basically the case all year long for the Wed double dips.

My least favorite thing about the Big Ten Network -- Some strange game times, like the 5:30 tip Nate alluded to, and the 8 p.m. weekday tipoffs.

My favorite thing about the Big Ten Network (and this far outweighs the former) -- Once the Big Ten season starts, you can pretty much count on a televised Big Ten game every day except Monday and Friday.

MSU played at 5:30 earlier this year as well. I don't understand it. Why the extra half hour? I like 8 PM tips. They give me a full two hours to get in the proper mindset.

DVR is a wonderful device. Watch the game in just over 1 hour and start it when you get home!

It just isn't the same if it isn't live. And I will always accidentally come across the score or receive a text.

That's the problem when they do the Wednesday night doubleheader. There's no easy answer. 8pm tip is too late for some people. 5:30pm tip is too early for some people.

Turn the phone off.

When I DVR sporting events, I do turn my cell off, and I ignore the land-line. I also never turn on the computer. Just me and my DVR.

First time I ever used DVR for a sporting event was during the BT tourney 2 years ago. It worked like a charm on the Thursday game against NW, so I did it again for the Indiana game that Friday when I was at a HS playoff game that night. Everything was going fine until I was driving home and I got 14 texts in a matter of 10 minutes. I knew it was right around the time the game should be getting done so I obviously knew something crazy had happened at the end of the game. I ended up reading the texts, but still didn't know what happened other than that the Goph's had won cuz most were along the lines "I can't believe this", or "Holy s#@$", or "Hoffarber!!". I turned on the radio since I knew they had won to hear what happened. Ended up watching the game right when I got home and LOVED the ending.

I have to stay "connected" until 8 p.m. for work.

You also saved yourself a stroke from cursing the officiating the led up to it. Absolutely the worst I have ever seen.

I suppose it doesn't even help when you ask your friends to not be jerks and ruin it? No matter how many times I ask people to not ruin it for me--they can't seem to help it.

My biggest problem is that in Chicago, most of my friends are basketball fans, Big Ten fans, but not Gopher fans.

So, I never know who is going to be watching the game, and then I'll get a random text from some Wisconsin or Michigan bozo when something happens.

East Time Zone bias?

DVR is one of the greatest inventions. With all the commercials now days, I don't know how people can watch anything live.
