Well 3 games in...3 different performances.

I have no idea what this team will do the rest of the way....I'm rooting for them to have some breakthrough wins and Brewster is here next year.

I don't see us beating MSU again this year....but who really knows.

If he is replaced....here is my updated list of coaches I want...not sure if they would actually come. Hope Maturi isn't the one being hired.

1) Jim Harbaugh - Standford - runs a team and offense that would work in the Big Ten in Minnesota
2) Gary Patterson - TCU like harbaugh...but not as good of a recruiter
3) Al Golden - Temple - has performed a miracle in Philly
After top 3 gets a little murky
3) Belotti - can he do what he did again at Minn what he did at oer?
4) Stoops - Az - has performed a good job...but a couple years ago...it was 50/50 whether he would be canned

Not on the list...
- Sumlin - just watched that offense sputter like the passing spread teams do inside the 10

will edit in more later....

Someone who actually has head coaching or is an offensive/defensive coordinator for a major program would be nice.

Patterson signed a pretty big extension at TCU...

Would Stoops leave Arizona for Minnesota? I'd consider it an upgrade but I'm not sure he would and I'm not sure the money could get too much better.

why take it?

why would someone at a major school take this job?

You think we would be able to get Harbaugh to leave Stanford,Patterson to leave TCU, or Stoops to leave Arizona? What are you smoking? Minnesota is not a big time coaching job. Our only chance at landing an above average coach is pulling someone like Brian Kelly away from Western Michigan like Cincinnati was able to do. Truth.

I don't agree. Pros: the stadium rocks, crowds so far good, Twin Cities nice. Cons: Pro sports city, cold weather area but so is the rest of the big ten. Reality: Holtz and Mason came here. Truth: we can get someone if boosters want to put in the $ and I think they will.

Yep. Don't know much about TCU, but Stanford and AZ are FAR more attractive coaching gigs than MN.

We were able to hire TCUs coach once before. We were also able to hire Kansas' coach who had previously turned down UGA. We're a Big Ten team not named Northwestern and happen to be located in a city rather than a cornfield.

I posted elsewhere but I'll post again.

Mike Stoops record at Arizona has gone like this:

Year 1=3-8
Year 2=3-8
Year 3=6-6
Year 4=5-7
Year 5=8-5
Year 6=8-5
Year 7=2-0

What year is Brewster in? Just saying.

Mike Stoops didn't make promises he couldn't keep either...

How about Joe Paterno. I think he's just using Penn St as a stepping stone.

What's your point?

Are you advocating firing a head coach because he promised a Rose Bowl, cause that is stupid.

Only guy in the list we even have a remote chance at is Golden. I think the rest would laugh at us short of a truckload of gold ingot.

Seriously, why does this matter?

Arizona hadn't made a bowl game since 1998 when Stoops took over in '04.

And, on the other side of your same equation, Wisconsin was 9-36 in the four years before Alvarez took over. In his fourth year, they won the Big Ten title. Ferentz also won the Big Ten in his fourth year.

And if you ask me, none of this matters. It doesn't matter how long it took Stoops to turn Arizona into a good team, and it doesn't really matter that it took Alvarez and Ferentz four years. (I just pointed out Alvarez and Ferentz to show that things can be turned around in year four, even if Stoops didn't do it.) None of these other coaches' success timelines have any influence to bear on where Brewster has this program. It helps to keep in mind that programs take time to build, but eventually you have to judge a coach strictly by wins and losses rather than his potential to create a winning program down the road. In year four, I think it is more than fair to look at wins and losses.

I would think you guys have a shot at Jesus for this job. You are clearly setting the bar too low with the names you mention. I mean, this is the Twin Cities.

Good grief....

....you naysayers would have said the same thing about Tubby Smith coming to Minneapolis.

1) Folks...the U upped the ante big time when the stadium got built. I do know that a half empty stadium would look REALLY bad for the U...and I think Bruinicks has more sense than that.
2) If the U is willing to offer $2M/yr or more....we have a shot at some of those guys on the list....as Reusse suggested for Sumlin (I don't want this guy). I hope Reusse is right on this....that might be a first for me to hope he is right.

3) On Jim H. I think Harbaugh is in play...he is a Big Ten guy...he has rotten fan support by comparison for what the U would have. Rich Rod isn't going any where now... Question is does he want to be a NFL guy or not. For their opener after just beating UCLA 35-0!...and the opener against a decent BCS team...they drew ONLY 39K last night! We have visions of expanding to 80k. I would say that might matter to Jim H.

4) Patterson is making $1.8M per year....maybe he doesn't sniff the Gophers job...but Maturi (I hope he doesn't get to hire the replacement if it comes to that) needs to find out. He is the least likely...of my list...but his fan support has been bad for a top 10 team. They got 47k yesterday...and they are expanding/remodeling the stadium ...so my guess is he stays for that...but they are making it only a 40k seat stadium.

Sorry for not finishing my list...on my B list...are names like
- Venables - OK D Coordinator
- Pelini's brother at Neb
- Mark Richt if he is fired at GA
- who else?

Again I want no part of what Sumlin is selling...inside the 10 in November...I have visions of Iowa stuffing 4 passes or runs from the 1.

In summary, $2M/yr and our new stadium and 50k per game fan support...puts some names in play that we haven't seen maybe ever.

GM

My guess is that we will know Mark Richt future sooner rather than later. His next 5 games are Miss State, Colorado, Tennessee, Vandy, and Kentucky. If he doesn't come up 3-2 or better out those 5 his is going to be looking for work even if he beats Florida and Georgia Tech. In other words the magic date on Richt is Oct 23rd.

I agree, but let's let year four play before shoveling dirt on Brewster grave. We are only 3 games in.

Let's not look at wins and losses, let's look a little deeper:

Watched Texas vs. Texas Tech last night. Tech offense is not the same without Mike Leach. Seems a good pirate without a job (thought the James stuff was BS to get rid of Leach and end power struggle with the AD).

Totally agree, anything short of this will get us nowhere. The athletic dept. has got to go all out, if Brew gets canned, to attract a big time coach.

Suggesting Mike Stoops as a possible replacement for Brewster might be the high-water mark of idiocy on this board. If not the dumbest suggestion, the most ironic, certainly.
