As the one-and-only 2026 Transfer Portal opens on January 2nd, this chain can assemble info, gossip and quips about related goings on. Here are a few opening observations:

Old Gopher, LB Tyler Stolksy, who transferred to FAU last year, is back in the portal. Good depth LB for the Gophers? He played a lot as a freshman when the Gophs were racked with injuries.

Billy Edwards, who left Maryland to join the Badgers last year, is back in the portal. Darn, I was hoping the Gophers would get to face the Badgers with Edwards as QB.

24/7's portal tracker show only a couple of "100% likely" transfers destinations so far. One is the transfer from BC to Indiana of the aptly-named RB Turbo Richard.

Iowa State is losing Chase Sowell, a 6'3", 215 lbs WR who 24/7 rates 93 as transfer. Would be great if the Gophers could get on Sewell's dance card, but I suppose he's following Campbell to Penn State.

Football names in the portal ...
Air Noland, QB, out of South Carolina
Bam Booker, Edge, out of Bowling Green
Juice Vereen, TE, out of U Conn
Diezel Williamson, S, out of Montana
Tank Hawkins, WR, out of Florida.

Other interesting names ...
Samson Isreal, CB, out of Memphis (clergy if not football in the future?)
Krypto Norwood, CB, out of SE Louisiana (finance if not football?)
Smiley Bradford, T, out of Purdue (positivity coach if not football?)
Five Hamilton, T, out of Kennesaw State (birth order thing?)

I only went back ten days. So much more to review, if I get the urge.

I really hope Stolksy is not back with the Gophers. He was a tough watch while he was here.

Should have named him Sevan Hamilton instead.

On the subject of the mass exodus at Iowa State, there are some real gems there at positions of need for the Gophers.
In an earlier post, I mentioned Chase Sowell, a big WR who is rated at 93 in the portal after an 87 rating out of HS. Size and demonstrated success in P4 play.
Another big riser is Ben Brahmer, a big TE at 6'7' 255 lbs, who is rated at 94 in the portal after a rating of 87 rating out of HS.
A huge riser at a position of need is CB Jontez Williams, who is rated at 93 in the portal after a ranking of 82 out of HS.
Another top performer at a position of need is Carsen Hansen, a big, resilient RB at 6'2" 220 lbs, who rates at 88 in the transfer portal. Last year he ran for 950 yards on 187 attempts (5.02 avg.) and the year before ran for 752 yards on 151 attempts (4.98 avg.). He also has significant receiving yards in 2025. He'd be a fine part of a pair and a spare.
Finally, there is S Marcus Bell rated at 90 in the portal, WR Brett Eskildsen rated at 89, and CB Tre Bell rated at 88.
There are plenty more, obviously, but to the extent these guys aren't following Campbell to Penn State, they present a real portal smorgasbord. Maybe Iowa State's traditional hatred of Iowa would give some of these guys a lean toward the Gophers ...

The NCAA among others told this dude exactly what would happen if amateurism went away. Collusion to limit incomes could be illegal, it turns out. Maybe.

Collectives step in and try to commit players to 1+ years to their breeder school but one wonders if they’re writing checks their butts can’t cash. Sure, we can cover 30M a year. Absolutely.

Im reading headlines that ISU is down to 16 players.
Coach went to WSU and dragged kids out west then came to ISU a year later.
Campbell will likely get the guys he wants to PSU. And if they don’t go to PSU there are a number of better P4 situations closer to home. ISU guy is going to have to go to FCS and P4 crumbs for players.

The big TE (Brahmer) is interesting depending on how good a blocker he is. I'm not a TE fanatic, but it would be nice to work Voss in behind a more experienced TE and also have some interesting two TE sets. Not a ton of experience on the roster as it stands right now.
