Per Paul:

Minnesota: 6.5 wins

The QB situation gives me some level of concern for the Golden Gophers. However, PJ Fleck has hit that 7-win plateau in the regular season 4 times since 2019. The schedule also features some solid ebbs and flows, so it sets up nicely for another strong bowl trip for Minnesota.

Pick: Over 6.5 wins

Go Gophers!!

A strong bowl this year would be awesome.

I would be happy with 7 wins. Lots of question marks. Another winning season under PJ's belt would be nice.

This is a rebuilding year for the Gophers so getting to 7-8 wins would be a really good year. They currently only have 5 guys on the roster with this being their last year of eligibility.

If Lindsey looks good and they can get to 7-8 wins, they should be considered a team that can make the CFP in 2026.

I am probably overly optimistic, but think we win 9 games minimum. Have a good feeling about this year. As I've stated before, we have to at least split the NE/Iowa back to back.

People are worried about Drake, but I'm more concerned about the OL. Drake will make plays if the line play is good as far as I'm concerned.

I’m not sure it’s a rebuilding year
Team is going to be better a lot of spots next year
Last year had a new QB too.

Chronological within the categories

Must wins (5):
Buffalo
Northwestern state
Purdue
Michigan State
Northwestern (wrigley)

of the next 5 in difficulty….
@Cal
Rutgers
Nebraska
@iowa
Wisconsin (might actually be easier than Michigan state or northwestern but here due to rivalry and history)

Provided you win the 5 must wins
0-5 is a total failure
1-4 is supremely disappointing
2-3 is a decent season
3-2 is a good season
4-1 is a very good season but disappointing because you didn’t win all 5
5-0 is fringe playoff

Win one of the other two to lock in playoff.

A loss in the must win category can be replaced by a win in the other two.
A win in the Penn state and Oregon category can counteract a loss anywhere. In fact…10-2 with a win against Oregon or Penn state is probably a lock, without it it’s questionable.

Last year the lowest ranked 2 or fewer loss big ten team was 8th.
Lowest ranked SEC 2 or fewer loss team was 7
Lowest ranked 2 or fewer Big 12 or ACC team was 17

In the playoff era, There have been 3 two loss teams from the big ten or SEC lower than 11 (2019 gophers -18, 2019 bama -13, 2015 northwestern -13) excluding Covid shortened season

Which spots do you think the Gophers are going to be significantly better at this season? They just lost 12 guys who are currently on NFL rosters. If no one declares early, they might not have anyone drafted or UDFA next offseason.

I like Lindsey a lot, but there is a big difference from having a 3 year FCS starter as an unknown at QB than a freshman who has never started a game at any level of college.

This team reminds me a lot of the 2018 team but with a better defense. I think they have a lot of the same questions on offense this season that they did that season. They got better as the season went on that year, especially after firing Robb Smith, then it set the stage for 2019. I could see a very similar outcome the next two seasons.

Might be a good analogy but the Nov 2018 team would have gone at least 9-3 against this years schedule

Any thoughts on a handful of key seniors this coming season. Could any of them surprise us and position themselves to become an UDFA?

I like the upside of Eastern, Redding and Geers.
I don't know anything about our transfers.

Marcellus Marshall OL
Dylan Ray OL
Jameson Geers TE
Drew Biber TE
Le'Meke Brockington WR
Logan Loya WR
Deven Eastern DL
Jalen Logan Redding DL
Mo Omonode DL
Jeff Roberson LB

We have some solid seniors that will all play an important role this season.
