2025-26 Team

Who will be here next year?
No way of knowing who will stay and who the new coach will bring in but in terms of the current roster:

Guys with eligibility left:
Asuma
Frank Mitchell
Betts
Grove
Sheridan
Reader

Incoming Recruits:
Shinholster
Ross
Jefferson

Cochran is a wild card in all this. Seems like he could maybe get a medical year, not sure if he wants that or if he would want to play a final year here under a different coach.

My assumption is that Betts won't be on the roster next year and Sheridan/Reader will depend on if there are spots available. So there are probably 6 likely spots taken up in Asuma, F. Mitchell, Grove and the 3 freshman. New coach will have a lot of roster spots to play with, and could end up with more if any of those 6 also leave.

Well...he's not going to playing under the same head coach next year.

I don't think there would be much demand for him coming off an injury, at least from a power conference school. Also, the new coach may not want him.

I am hoping we get to keep Asuma, Grove and the three new recruits. I have to believe that Frank and Cochran are going to look around or be done unless they have local girlfriends or connections that keep them here.

Go get shooters and speed in the portal and open up the wallet to get some good ones. I'd love to see the new coach get Payne back. He's been really good in the games I have watched him this year.

I hope Frank Mitchell sticks around for another year. He really picked his game up over the last portion of the season and could be a solid contributor for the next coach.

New coach is going to have a lot of spots to fill, will be interesting to see what he is able to do.

yeah in this day and age a new coaching staff usually means all new recruits. I would call it a long shot if we are able to get any of the recruits to stick, of course if the new coach even wants them.

I would also hope Frank the Tank is back. hes a solid back up 5 man.

Jefferson has been posting about Minnesota all year on X, not about Ben. We have playing time and money in a big conference. I hope he sticks. He could be a good one!

I think it is funny as hell trying to predict the roster with no coach yet determined.

Asuma is just as likely to bail as anyone else

Maybe Koi can play with Asuma.

Thanks for putting this together. That is a very thin roster.

Yep, was one of the main reasons I felt the move needed to be made. No real upward momentum and a roster that is going to need to be almost fully reconstructed.

Difference between basketball and football is that in football when a coaching change is made the recruits often haven't signed yet. In basketball they are already signed. Obviously they can be released but the 2025 recruits are already signed.

I would think that we would attempt to hold them to the contract for the sake of continuity and fidelity to the program.

If it's Medved, gotta think the growth of David Roddy would be appealing to Frank the Tank.

Go Gophers!!

Strangely, I see recruiting through the lens of fidelity. Conversely, transferring is then a form of infidelity (in my mind, at least). I have been researching marriage from antiquities until today. One of the oddest findings I have recently read is that up to 41% of marriage infidelity has a genetic component. If that is the case, should we be pre-screening our recruits for these genetic markers? This is just a thought experiment, and I am not advocating for any type of intrusive instrument to be followed through. Just be glad we are not in 1644 when infidelity to a family was treated as a high crime that resulted in being burned at the stake. These two things combined into the modern basketball world is simply not an option, except maybe for a Cohen brothers' film or a dystopic novel.

yeah being signed means basically nothing, if they want out, they will get out.

I am sure the U will grant their release if they want it but all 3 would be wise to wait for a new coach to be named before asking for that release.

already did.......see post #7 on this thread

but i do hope Jefferson sticks as well.
It is hard to imagine but follow me. It looked like a list of all possible returning players and not a list of actual players you think will return. I wish I had viewed it differently.

Yes Medved has been great at finding diamonds in the rough and developing players. On the other hand, I don't think Roddy's game is very similar to Franks.

lol here is a quote from what i posted

who i think will be back
Asuma
Grove
Reader(walk on)
Sheridan(walk on)

but its all good. Lets get the coach hired. And hopefully the guys who can come back, including the recruits, are patient with this and allow the new coach to have some conversations with all of them to find out whats best for the team

Can Grove be a stretch 4? If he doesn't have an outside shot, then I'm not that high on him. Seems like a smart kid, good footwork, high IQ player, not sure on being a B1G player. Hope I'm wrong and he sticks around.

If I had to guess today, I would say only Asuma returns from existing scholarship players, and maybe two of the three incoming recruits still end up at the U.
