7. Detroit Lions
Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota*

Another early 2020 college season opt-out, another top-10 pick. Bateman won't wow you with his wheels, but he produced to the tune of 60 catches for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns last season because of his precise route running, soft hands and physicality. He has some versatility in where he lines up -- he will work the middle of the field and eat up press coverage. Oh, and essentially the entire Lions wide receivers room could be off to free agency in 2021, including Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., Danny Amendola and Marvin Hall, meaning "area of need" might be an understatement come April.

Go Gophers!!

I am glad for Bateman for getting a lot of good press. But it seems like the Lions pick a WR every year with a top pick.

can't wait to see bateman on sunday's. fleck bringing in elite talent.

They haven’t drafted a 1st Rd WR since 2007.
I said a top pick. They chose Charles Rogers with the 2nd pick in 2003, Roy Williams with the 7th pick in 2004, Mike Williams with the 10th pick in 2005, Calvin Johnson with the 2nd pick in 2007, Derrick Williams in Round 3 in 2009, Titus Young in Round 2 in 2011, Ryan Broyles in Round 2 in 2012, Kenny Golladay in Round 3 in 2017. That is 8 picks chosen in the top 3 rounds for one position. Now they want another WR in Bateman.

Dont seem like many going back that far. The vikes have drafted Jefferson in 1st Treadwell in the 1st patterson in the 1st Harvin in the 1st Rice in the 2nd Williamson in the 1st and Burleson in the 3rd in 2003. Doesnt seem too crazy

JOTTINGS

• Pro Football Focus ran a 2021 NFL mock draft and had Gophers wideout Rashod Bateman going No. 24 overall to the Packers. PFF had North Dakota State quarterback and Marshall grad Trey Lance going No. 5 overall to the Panthers.

Go Gophers!!
