Who switched out Philip Nelson's highlight reel? Does anyone else feel like they're watching...Philip Nelson.

Interestingly enough 247 gave Nelson a somewhat lowly 82 rating (low 3 star) and Schlichte a 90 (low 4 star). Nelson was bestowed 52nd best pro-style qb and Schlichte is graded 13th.

I'm no pro, but Schlichte has what appears to be an ability to check down and avoid staring down his favored target. Seems to be a shade slower runner than Nelson but difficult to say. Just a junior. Whatever, I'm excited to have a MN QB rated this highly and would love to have him at the U!

It looks like his overall jr yr stats were somewhat less than Philip's were. Could just be on a worse team. I am admittedly not an EXPERT rivals or 247 talent scout but they look like almost exactly the same caliber of player to my eye. Again, I am not a professional talent evaluator.

Was Philip given too low a rating or is Ryan given too high a rating? Does this imply these ratings are arbitrary and one part talent and two parts groupthink and hype?

Nelson's 82 is the 247Composite - the composite score from the other recruiting sites. 247 wasn't around when Nelson was a senior. Schlichte's 90 is his 247-specific grade.

I'm sorry come again? The last thing I want to do is come off as a pompous elitist, but the internets are telling me this: http://247sports.com/Player/Philip-Nelson-8697?Institution=13898

It looks like 247 was started in 2010 which would have given them more than enough time to look at a few minutes of reel, maybe call some connections in the media world to see who has the buzz, and rate the top players in each state. Nelson committed in 2011.

Getting back to the original thread, has anyone seen both Nelson and Schlichte as high school QBs? Did one stand out vs the other as far as decision making, arm strength etc? This would be valuable information.

Sorry, I thought this was 247's first year.

I don't think he is as big and strong ad Nelson. His dad was OC at MSU-Mankato back in the 90's when they had some good offenses. I also heard his back-up is an 8th grader who will like star for three years after next.

I've seen this kid hucking a frisbee around a few weeks ago. I'd say he has a future on the frisbee team if football doesn't work out for him.

He's gonna go down like gangbusters tossing around the disc.

I guess if you are projected to be any good at all in football you plan on going to West high at an early age. Mankato East does not stand a chance.

Interesting. Appears to be one of those where the assessment of the recruiting site isn't matching what the professionals, whose jobs depend on getting the right kids, see.

The evaluators at recruiting sites are no less professional than current coaches and many of them were actual former coaches, players and recruiters. Besides it’s not like major professional teams hire scouts instead of having their own coaches do the talent evaluating. :D

As for Schlichte if his offer list doesn’t improve too much after his senior season i really hope we can get his as a PWO. Don’t know how realistic it is though.

Which explains why they are working for a recruiting site instead of coaching. Rating a player a 4 Star and the only offer gets is from the Div 2 local school, something doesn't jive.
