It's tougher to argue that Nebraska should have beaten Minnesota in Minneapolis. The Gophers dominated Nebraska from the second quarter on; outrushing and outpassing Nebraska and basically wearing the Big Red down. It's a little simplistic to argue that Nebraska merely didn't tackle well because it doesn't acknowledge how well Minnesota played. And that's the core of a Jerry Kill program; they may not be the flashiest or the most talented, but they are well-coached and efficient.

It's nice to read a respectful analysis. I think they are still under rating us and will be shocked again when the final gun goes off.

Interesting to see the results of the poll below the article.

Boy did we tear their heart out. Lincoln is a tough place to replicate what we did to them last year; but if we can get momentum going, we might get the reputation of having their number. I talked to a few Nebraska fans after last year's game; they were broken and somber.

"Can Nebraska hire Jerry Kill? The Gophers beat up the Huskers like they are playing hockey. "

That's the one I voted for.

I figure if we can run the ball, we should beat them. Then again, I think the cornhuskers are overrated.

Interesting Husker Poll results. Pretty soon Jerry Kill & Tracy Claeys will be on everybody's coaching candidate list. Should we start worrying?

Probably not. I think this is Kill's last stop and Claeys will stick with the gang unless something really extraordinary happens, like a Rose Bowl win.

I liked the end of the article even better:

"That assessment probably applies to the entire team, as Minnesota is picked by most to finish in the lower half of the Big Ten's west division; ESPN's Big Ten writers ranked them tenth in the fourteen team conference. I suspect that's rather low, especially when you take Jerry Kill's track record into account. That's not to say that I expect Minnesota to contend for the division title, but rather that teams better play some of their best football when facing the Gophers, because Minnesota will be good enough to beat you if you don't. That's a lesson Nebraska learned the hard way last October."
[Emphasis added]

Of course that will only be the case if the Gophers capable of playing with anyone in The West show up.

Increasingly believing this will be the case.

Go Gophers! In Kill We Trust!

Kill’s health issues will definitely keep the big boys out of interest for quite some time. That is the one silver lining to it.
