FYI, I don't know if the level of tickets the fans buy goes into any Bowl Committee's decision or if only numbers do, but...

I bought upper deck tickets (similar to 602-606 - whichever side the Gophers were on) last year through the U. As we were walking into our section we were stopped by an attendant and given 2nd row tickets in the first deck corner (similar to 102-103 on the Gopher side but not where the cheerleaders and Goldy hung out the whole game). It was fantastic. I was sitting with my wife's family and we had a cameraman close by we think liked my wife and sister-in-law because we were on the big screen at least 4 times.
 


It was mentioned in a previous thread that you could buy tickets and donate them, how do I do that??

Umm... were you standing right next to me? I was in the first row next to Goldy.
 

Staying out at the Galleria is fine if you just want to be around Gopher fans, but it isn't close to anything else. Plus, it's a haul to get to the game.

Got a good deal at the Wyndham in the Medical District last year, and would recommend going that route. An easy walk to the bars and restaurants just west of the Rice campus (Morningside Dr) and right on the light rail line that's a short ride south to the stadium and about a 10-minute ride north to Downtown/Midtown.
 



The last time I was in Houston we got a kick out of The Red Lion Pub. It was I think close to the Stadium.

We also could not pass up Brennan's. We went there for brunch. One thing you will need is Sport Coat, although they have house coats. Its not New Orleans, but is excellent in every respect.

Has anyone seen info on a pep rally like last year? Will it be at the hotel like last year?

Sadly no. I was in the corner where Goldy was NOT. And the people in front of me were skanky Tech fans. I'm assuming that doesn't describe you. :)
 

We have booked our hotel! We are just 1/4 of a mile from the team hotel, so it will be easy to walk over there if there are any pep rallies or activities. Can't wait!
 

The Texas Bowl has put out a pretty good fan guide that has some of the same local entertainment information I gave in last year's bowl thread, but also more specific parking and tailgating rules.

I learned that the pre-game concert is going to be Stoney LaRue. I'm not sure if he is a big name up north, but he is relatively well-known on the Texas Country scene:

The Texas Bowl will be honoring Dat Nguyen as one of their Gridiron Legends. Even more of a reason for me to show up. :)
 

The area around Rice University has many bars and restaurants, target area near The Gingerman (a reknowned beer bar) and see what else is around. The Volcano is also nearby.

As I mentioned last year, the Midtown area also has many places to wet your whistle. Spec's liquors is worth a stop, if nothing else they have a pretty good deli to get some snacks in...and its across from Pub Fiction. The Washington Avenue corridor also has many places to eat and drink. If you stay by the Galleria the Uptown area may be closest to visit...but I think some of the places there are a bit snooty for my tastes.

Karbach and Saint Arnolds are two local brewers that provide tours. Good burgers at Christians Tailgate, try some Cajun at BB's Café or Rajun Cajun. Pappadeaux is also good but a little pricier. Try the BBQ at Gatlins, Burns, or Goode Company. Tex Mex is excellent...many places I could name...

If you want a weird tourist experience, drive the LaPorte Freeway (#225) to see all the refineries and chemical plants that help form the economic base of the area/nation...almost 50% of the nations oil/petrochemicals come from here. Think South St. Paul x 10.

NASA is 25 minutes down I-45, Galveston is 50 minutes down I-45 if you want to see the Gulf or hang out at the Strand area for a day.

You can look on yelp.com or www.29-95.com for other entertainment options...

I mentioned this further up in the thread, and will echo it again. Our waitress at the Gingerman last year asked us if we were with the marching band - always makes me feel good when I can still pass myself off as a college kid.
