Who are they, and will there be any significant talent (on a national level)?

I know Tommy Olsen is considered very good, but is he considered a top lineman nationally? The answer may be yes, in which case we already have a very nice head start on 2011 recruiting.

ESPN's 150 watch list only has Olsen listed. It will be crucial to hang on to both he and Phillips.

This is what I love about college football/recruiting. We can already look ahead to next year, the day after signing day.

I've already posted this, so my apologies for repeating it. But here are some of the kids I've seen pop up on recruiting radars for the past year:

Wyatt Peiffer - OL/DL - Chaska
Andre Hunt - RB - Eastview
Kyle Nowak - OL - Henry Sibley
Peter Westerhaus - TE/LB - Holy Family
Olson
DeAndre Cunningham - DB - Osseo
Tyler Evans - RB - Pipestone
Joe Zrust - DE - Totino Grace
Torsten Rotto - DE - Woodbury

I don't know much about the kids, outside of Westerhaus, who is a pretty good lookin TE prospect

If I had to make an early prediction, I doubt Phillips stayed committed, but here's hoping that I am wrong. I hope that we can keep him or bring in Hasan if he is ready to play.

Here are some OL to keep your eye on all summer.

OT Derek Farniak Sioux Falls, SD (Will be hard to land. Highly touted.)

OT Matt Hegarty Aztec, NM (Will be hard to land. Highly touted.)

OT Victor Nelson Park Ridge, IL (Suburb of Chigago. Sought by Cosgrove)

OT Marcus Aprahamian Brookfield, WI (Should be highly ranked. Believe was here for Junior Day)

Andre Hunt is at Cretin now. He's recovering from a knee injury or has recovered from a knee injury. I haven't seen him in a while, so i don't know if he's added size but he was a stud as a sophmore. Played much bigger than his size. Very explosive.

What about the WR from Osseo? Doesnt he have good size and put up really good numbers last year?

Hunt tore his knee up late last spring in non-contact drills after he filled the paperwork out to transfer from Eastview to Cretin. It will be interesting to watch what happens to Hunt if he ever sees the field after his injury. The Eastview team did not miss him last fall and I will leave it at that.

From what I hear, Hunt has been working really hard and will definitely be a huge part of the Raider team next fall. From what I hear, he will probably play safety in college, and he is currently at like 6'0" 200 lbs.

I don't think you can say Eastview didn't miss Hunt. If he had been healthy he would have been the missing ingredient in their offense. They really lacked talent at the skill positions, and he would have been a huge upgrade at RB. The team still did well because they have an incredible group of coaches, but they would have liked to have Andre in the backfield.

I can see him growing into a solid kid. His dad is a very stocky dude. If he's 100%, he'll be a great player next season. His dad is a former Badger, i believe.

How much scouting goes on with the small high schools? I know you can't pay the same level of attention to all of the schools, but talent can pop up anywhere. If there is a player with D-I talent at one of the small schools, we can get someone who goes completely under the radar.

I like that Brewster is first in on a few of these kids (offering wise).
It's always a risky proposition to offer that early, particularly if you are the only one. That said, this is a program that needs to take risks. Indiana offered a ton of players early last year, and ended up with a lot of decommitments and 2-star players. Then again, it's Indiana, so you'd probably have that either way.

I think that's typically the case. As a %, we seem to do a better job at schools like Jefferson, Eastview, and Sibley (not that they are small schools, but you get my point) as opposed to Cretin-Durham or Eden Prarie. Schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc., seem to mostly focus on the handful of programs that produce the most D1 talent.

I really think that is more of a coincidence than anything. We happened to lose out on Henderson, Floyd, Ashley, and Mobley. I think it has much more to do with those kids being the highest rated and most heavily recruited kids from this state more than it has to do with which high school they went to. I think once the Notre Dame's, Ohio St.'s, USC's of the world show up, it's a completely different game.

We lost McNeal, Allen, Okemi all to schools that aren't complete powerhouses (recruiting wise) and they are form the suburbs.

I really think it has much more to do with whether or not the particular athlete is a great prospect (rather than a decent prospect).

You don't think prospects are recruited more heavily depending upon what school they go to? That's my point. Not that because a player goes to a certain school he's going to choose us or not. Rather, that going to a certain school is going to get a player more offers, and therefore make them less likely to choose us.

That is probably true. I think playing on a big time program gives you more exposure and you obviously look better playing next to other good players. However, I just don't think there is much of a difference between the exposure a really talented kid could get if he went to CDH compared to Minnetonka, Jefferson, Woodbury, or any large metro school. I do think there would be a big difference between CDH and Mora though.

Perhaps. I'm not a native Minnesotan, so I don't pretend to follow local sports that much. However, since Rivals started keeping track, I found only 3 players from Jefferson that signed with a top conference school (one of the "BCS 6") and all 3 of them went to Minnesota. As per Woodbury, Lamonte Edwards was the very first. In contrast, CDH had 11 scholarship players, only 3 of which came to Minnesota. In the case of Eden Prarie it's 2 out of 8. I don't think that's just a coincidence.

I am pretty familiar with Pipestone, and I don't even know who Tyler Evans is. I would think if there was a highly recruited kid out of that area he'd be have some pretty gaudy stats, but I am pretty sure he wasn't even there leading rusher.

I know Farniack from South Dakota is being pursued by Iowa as well as Nebraska. Big prospects from South Dakota are usually hot commodities for these two and Minnesota recruiting wise because they don't have a major D1 program in the state. Additionally, Victor Nelson has been offered early by Iowa and I believe Illinois. That will be a big battle with Notre Dame thrown in. I'd venture to guess Iowa will feast on the demise of the Zookster and the uncertainty of Notre Dame in Illinois. Anyone know anything about Wisconsin for 2011? Both Iowa and Minnesota did a good job in 2010 in taking away some big talent from the Vadgers.

Wisconsin seems to be pretty similar to last year, in that it's got a lot of depth but no real stars. Wisconsin has offered Jake Keefer, a big kid out of Western Wisconsin. We've offered Sam Rohr, tight end from the Milwaukee area, who I think someone already provided a link to. I don't know what type of scholarship limits Wisconsin has, that definitely helped us last year in limiting how many in-state players they offered.

Farniok would be a great get, but you're probably right about Iowa and Nebraska. I don't really know who kids grow up in Sioux Falls rooting for, but I would guess Nebraska primarily.
