I found it interesting that thus far only two coaches (Hoke and Franklin) are on track for markedly better seasons than the previous coach's final year. The rest are aiming for on-par or worse than the previous season.

I'll try to update this at the end of the season and we'll see who comes out ahead, equal, or worse than the predecessor on a strictly record basis.

**UPDATED**

Colorado:
2010 (Dan Hawkins): 5-7 (2-6)
2011 (Jon Embree): 3-10 (2-7)

UConn:
2010 (Randy Edsall): 8-5 (5-2)
2011 (Paul Pasqualoni): 5-6 (3-3)

Florida:
2010 (Urban Meyer): 8-5 (4-4)
2011 (Will Muschamp): 6-6 (3-5)

Indiana
2010 (Bill Lynch): 5-7 (1-7)
2011 (Kevin Wilson): 1-11 (0-8)

Maryland:
2010 (Ralph Friedgen): 9-4 (5-3)
2011 (Randy Edsall): 2-10 (1-7)

Miami:
2010 (Randy Shannon): 7-6 (5-3)
2011 (Al Golden): 6-6 (3-5)

Michigan:
2010 (Rich Rodriguez): 7-6 (3-5)
2011 (Brady Hoke): 10-2 (6-2)

Minnesota:
2010 (Tim Brewster/Jeff Horton): 3-9 (2-6)
2011 (Jerry Kill): 3-9 (2-6)

Ohio State:
2010 (Jim Tressel): 12-1 (7-1)
2011 (Luke Fickell): 6-6 (3-5)

Pitt:
2010 (Dave Wannstedt): 8-5 (5-2)
2011 (Todd Graham): 5-6 (3-3)

2011 (David Shaw): 11-1 (8-1)

Vanderbilt:
2010 (Robbie Caldwell): 2-10 (1-7)
2011 (James Franklin): 6-6 (2-6)

Minnesota:
2010 (Tim Brewster): 3-9 (2-6)
2011 (Jerry Kill): 2-6 (1-3)

Actually, Brewster was 1-6 his last year with no Trophy Wins during his tenure.

I hate it that he gets credit for the last 2 wins (Illinois & Iowa). The thing that bothers me even more is when he's doing coverage on the field for ESPN, they address him as "Coach".

I'm not bitter, but Brewster is no more a coach than I am "Mr. America".

1st year with a new coaching staff is an adjustment period for everyone. Hard to evaluate success until after 2-3 years.

True. Updated. My point is less about the previous coach than the record comparison though.

Totally agree. Thanks for putting that together. It was an interesting read.

Speaking of Jeff Horton, does anyone know what he's doing these days?

From wikipedia

"Horton is currently the Assistant Head Coach/Running Backs Coach for San Diego State University."

Don't know how SDSU is doing.

OOPS! guess I'm pretty slow today.

Thanks guys! Gopher07 & nc2mn, you need to work on your internet speed; dpo is cheetah fast.

I should have been able to find that with a search...my connectivity is slow today. Thanks again!

Hello Mr. America!

He was a coach of the Gophers. He may not have been the best coach, but he was a coach.

"Pitt:
2010 (Dave Wannstedt): 8-5 (5-2)
2011 (Todd Graham): 4-4 (2-1)

This one will never make any sense. Why would this change make Pitt and better? His last there years, 9-4, 10-3 and 7-5, gets you fired? 2 second Place and a FIRST place Conference finish gets you fired? Wannstedt probably got as much as he could out of the Panthers. Pitt fans are still dreaming about the Dorsett years. Now with an ACC schedule looming those dreams will stay unfulfilled.

Updated the above list. Two coaches (Franklin, Hoke) will have much better seasons, overall, than their predecessors. One (Kill) kept the same overall record, with a two others (Golden, Shaw) still having a chance. The rest are headed for worse seasons, overall-record-wise, than the previous staffs.
