Anybody have an idea what the depth chart's gonna look like? I think the offense is pretty set...
QB1- Weber
QB2- Gray
QB3- Alipate
RB1- Bennet
RB2- Whaley
RB3- Eskridge
FB- Hoese
FB2- ?(Any backup? REngel off the team correct?)
WR1- McKnight
WR2- Green
WR3- Stoudamire
WR4- Carpenter/Allen
TE- Lair
TE2- ?
TE3- ?(No idea who back up is, any ideas? Pro style set may need two tight ends)
LT1- Alford
LT2- ? (Ed Olson?)
LG1- Carufel
LG2-?
C-Buriss
C2- ?
RG1- Bunders
RG2- Orton
RT1- Willis
RT2- ?

Can anyone fill in some of the above blanks for the offense? Any important freshman out of high school that should be considered above? And lastly if anyone has a clue about the Defensive Depth chart it'd be greatly appreciated... i have no idea with all of the seniors leaving from last year's defense... if anyone could help that'd be great! thanks

We may get a surprise starter at Tackle with Michals. He has looked very good; pretty certain Wills' spot it secure though. So Olsen must be behind Wills. I also believe that Stoudemire is the #2 receiver, so he an Green switches.

Hard to have Whaley as a running back since he got kicked of the team......

Did Carufel get moved to the left side?

I'm sure this will be the first of many depth chart threads, but since preseason media guides are coming out soon, I think it's a good subject.

I thought Theret was still on the indefinite suspended list. So as a first pass through I'd probably leave off the people who haven't been officially put back on the team yet. (Of course unless I missed the memo that Theret has completed his 1000 100's that he needs to run to make up for embarrassing the team. -- made up the punishment for those who might take that serious).

Ole, you must have found some way to tap into my computer, and steal my top-secret Gophers Football 2-Deep
Fall Lineups recently Tweeted to me from Tim Brewster by mistake; Tim thought he was sending them to El Sid. Seriously, I wrote the following projected season-opening lineups just for fun over the weekend to see for myself if we have any kind of depth this year:

GOPHER FOOTBALL 2-DEEP LINEUPS FALL 2010

DEFENSE

CB-Carter, Michael Henderson, Kyle
CB-Lewis, Christyn Collado, Ryan
NICKLE-Collado
SS-Royston, Kim Watkins, Kenny, Salaman,Shady
FS-Theret, Kyle Watkins, Kenny or Manuel, James

OLB-Rallis, Mike Hill, Aaron
MLB-Tinsley, Gary Reeves, Spencer
OLB-Cooper, Keanon Singleton, Brent

DE-Hageman, Ra'Shede Jacobs, Anthony
DE-Wilhite, D.L. Gregory-McGhee, Kendall or Garin, Matt
DT-Edwards, Jewhan Jacobs, Anthony
DT-Kirksey, Brandon Ferguson, Sean or Hageman, Ra'Shede

OFFENSE

OT-Alford, Dominic Michel, Brooks
OG-Olson, Ed Bunders, Chris
C-Burris, D.J. Mottla, Zach or Wynn, Ryan
OG-Carufel, Matt Orton, Ryan
OT-Wills, Jeff Wynn, Ryan
TE-Lair, Eric Eure, Tiree or Hughes, Curtis
(Blocking, 2-TE)
WR-Green, Brandon Carpenter, Hayo or Keise, Victor
WR-McKnight, Da'Jon Brandon, Xzavian
SLR-Stoudermire, Troy Allen, Bryant

QB-Weber, Adam Gray, MarQueis

RB-Bennett, Duane Wright, Devon or Eskridge, DeLeon
FB-Hoese, Jon Cotton, Ed

Special Forces

K-Ellestad, Eric Schwerman, David
P-Orseske, Dan Guy, Ray(He can still kick)
LS-Coleman, Ryan Ramlet, Dave
KR-Stoudermire, Troy
KR-Allen, Bryant Wright, Devon
PR-Allen, Bryant Green, Brandon

Our thoughts and our lineups are almost identical, kind of eerie. However, I have some fearless predictions for some players who I believe will become big contributors and contend for All-Big 10 honors. On defense, Brandon Kirksey, DT, First-Team All-Big10. Bigger, stronger, faster, a leader by example. Ra'Shede Hageman, DE, All-Big10 Freshman Defensive Team, Defensiive Rookie of the Year. Gary(No More Mopeds)Tinsley, MLB, Second-Team All-Big 10. Michael Carter, CB, Big10 Honorable Mention. Force of Nature, Jewhan Edwards.

On Offense, Troy Stoudermire, SLR,KR, All-Big10, KR, and Big 10 Honorable Mention, Receiver. Matt Carufel, OT, All Big Second Team. Da'Jon McKnight,WR, Big10 Honorable Mention. Adam Weber, QB, All-Big10 Second Team. Gophers MVP, (You Heard It Here First). I think that Adam will have a huge year and silence his critics.

I know, I know, I am an eternal optimist, but somebody around here has to be. So, it might as well be me. Season Record: 8-4. Other thoughts and opinions?

So you mistakenly listed Carufel at left guard? That's okay, I was just making sure I didn't miss hearing about a position change.

I for one love the optimism. 8-4 could happen. I would rather go into a season hoping for good things to happen and then be disappointed if they don't (see 2003) than be a pessimist and jump on the bandwagon when things go well. We think that we're the only school that has had disappointments over the years and we focus on those rather than be optimistic and positive for what is to come.

I'm just excited for the season to start!

Not sure what the results will look like, but our defense is very talented and will be SICK next year. This is more talent than we've had on defense since I've been paying attention (10 years or so). We should get a pretty good idea of our defensive coaching staff based upon our performance for the next couple of years. If Weber can have a solid senior season and some receivers step up, I believe this could be the most complete team the gophers have had in 10-15 years. The sad reality, though, is that could equal a 6 or 7 win season and all the passive negatives will repeat the mantra of 'more of the same.' It's disturbing the way the media/public consciousness in this town loves to hate on the gophers(I realize that I got off topic. I apologize).

8-4 is optimistic, and we will need all those accolades to achieve that. Hope your right as it will make an exciting time at TCF, including the best home win in many years

My personal depth chart

AM games:
Bloody Mary
Screwdriver
Beer
Some off the wall concoction someone brought

PM games:
Beer
Rum & Coke, transitioning to darker spirits as the fall gets into full swing
Oh my god...what did you put in this?

you are correct

How do you transition to darker spirts from rum? Proper rum is a dark spirt that light stuff is an imposter.:D

It'll be interesting to see where Jacobs ends up (DE or DT). I get the feeling it'll be a telling sign of how the players at each position are progressing. If he ends up at DE, it's because the staff is worried about Hageman, Wilhite, Garin, and/or KGM. If he ends up at DT, it's because Legania, Ferguson, and Tauaefa aren't ready to contribute.

I prefer he ends up as the main backup at DT because that means the rFr Garin and KGM are progressing nicely. I'd rather they not rely on 2 true freshman to back up Edwards and Kirksey.

Other battles/decisions that interest me:
- Bouie vs Vereen competition. I think the winner gets meaningful playing time.
- Garin vs KGM. Both highly thought of. Who gets more PT.
- Lair vs Eure. Both unproven. Both with upside. Weber likes throwing to TEs
- 3 Frosh RBs - Which one stands out and potentially competes with Bennett and Eskridge for carries. One will be in the mix IMO.
- Olson, Michel, and Mottla vs the Establishment. We've heard positive reports about all 3. Is that just talk or can the supplant a member of the underachieving line from last year?

Weber will have a great year and the recievers will be suprisingly good. The O-line will be dominate at times and we will actually find some running backs. Weber will have a great year to finish off his career as a Gopher.

It'll be interesting to see where Jacobs ends up (DE or DT).

- 3 Frosh RBs - Which one stands out and potentially competes with Bennett and Eskridge for carries. One will be in the mix IMO.

Expect one to be injured and RS'd, one to be not quite ready for prime time and turn up somewhere else, and one to be RB in training as both Eskridge and bennet will be improved and taking more carries than the year before. With a line still learning the run game, it will take three RB's to survive the year.

I hope be find a diamond in the rough when it comes to running back.

How do you transition to darker spirts from rum? Proper rum is a dark spirt that light stuff is an imposter.:D

Don't know how this was missed, but making sure someone else didn't miss this. Unregistered! I maybe nerdery but I don't mess around with that light rum! I hope you have this fixed before next season or YOU might be on the hot seat :D.

DEs - Hageman and Wilhite are a lock as starters; the interesting battle will be for the #2 behind each of them. Jacobs might play DT and DE as well (most versatile D-lineman). KGM plays behind Hageman and Wilhite, but Garin only plays behind Wilhite. New JuCo DE might compete for some time as well. Seems like speculation is increasing as to whether Garin will become a hybrid OLB because of his size (not sure his speed is on par, but....). Should be interesting to watch.

Heard that J. Edwards has not been attending summer workouts, because he wasn't enrolled in summer school (read: doing the bare minimum this summer). And he has been in town. If true, that is whack! I can't imagine any reason a player...no - a STARTER - would come out of last season thinking, "Gee, I should probably do less this summer to help my team win more games next fall." Hopefully, Kirksey can kick the defense in the behind as workouts start next month. They appear to have the physical tools, but mental toughness - when Clay takes his train up the gut - will be the x-factor.

O.K. how about I replace it with Bacardi Limon & Club Soda. I know this still flies in the face of you dark rum dictum, but man...that is one refreshing c-tail on a hot day.
