Paige Bueckers does not need to leave the home state if she doesn't want to. She can still win championships staying home. There is plenty of home grown talent.
What made the 2003-2004 Minnesota Lady Gophers Team special is it was dominated by Minnesotans:
Seventy five percent of the team was from MN.
Kadidja Andersson-------------F-------5'11"-----SR------Stockholm, Sweden
Shannon Bolden--------------G/F----5'11"-----SO------Marshall, MN
Jamie Broback----------------G/F----6'3"-------FR------Apple Valley, MN
Christina Collison-------------C------6'2"-------SO------Eden Prairie, MN
Lori Dimitroff-----------------G------5'9"-------SR------Maple Grove, MN
Hannah Gary-----------------G------5'5"-------SO------Stewartville, MN
Liz Podominick---------------F/C----6'2"-------FR-------Lakeville, MN
Tanisha Gilbert---------------G/F----5'11"-----JR-------Brooklyn Park, MN
Leslie Hill---------------------F------5'10"-----SR-------Chicago, IL
Janel McCarville--------------C------6'2"-------JR-------Stevens Point, WI
Kelly Roysland---------------G------5'9"-------FR-------Fosston, MN
Lindsay Whalen--------------G-----5'9"--------SR------Hutchinson, MN
I am sure that there are other great MN Women's Basketball players in this era that opted to go elsewhere. Minnesota doesn't have a dearth of basketball talent.
Many opted to go elsewhere for various reasons after the Lindsay Whalen era. Some where not recruited hard. I think Lindsay Whalen need to tap into the state to get players like Bueckers to stay home and be part of something great.
The reverse is true with last year's team which only had three Minnesotans.
