2003-2004 Final Four Team Dominated By Minnesotans

Paige Bueckers does not need to leave the home state if she doesn't want to. She can still win championships staying home. There is plenty of home grown talent.

What made the 2003-2004 Minnesota Lady Gophers Team special is it was dominated by Minnesotans:

Seventy five percent of the team was from MN.

I am sure that there are other great MN Women's Basketball players in this era that opted to go elsewhere. Minnesota doesn't have a dearth of basketball talent.

Many opted to go elsewhere for various reasons after the Lindsay Whalen era. Some where not recruited hard. I think Lindsay Whalen need to tap into the state to get players like Bueckers to stay home and be part of something great.

The reverse is true with last year's team which only had three Minnesotans.

You forgot Shannon Schonrock from that list who was a sophomore from Blue Earth MN. if you look at the actually rotation of the final four team, it was 8 players that played or got minutes, 6 from Minnesota along with Mccarville and Anderson.

What made the 2003-2004 Minnesota Lady Gophers Team special is that it was easily the best team in program history. That it was dominated by Minnesotans is incidental. Though 9 of the 12 players were from Minnesota, 2 of the best 4 (and arguably 2 of the best 3) were not from Minnesota.

I'm not on Team Lock Down the State, either, but am I correct in recalling that at one point, the Gophers had five consecutive Miss Basketballs on the team? (Calhoun redshirting, Bolden, Podomonick, Knight and Ohm maybe?)

Yep, Calhoun started the run by transferring in from Iowa. The run ended with Jenna Smith picking Illinois. The first four were together on the 05-06 team (although, famously, Knight only played 8 minutes).
