2 to 4 of 32 NIT bids likely gone

I'll update this as much as I can throughout the course of the week as conference tournaments are completed.

32 NIT Bids (spots possibly filled)
1. Drexel (CAA regular-season champs)
2. Iona (MAAC regular-season champs)
3. Middle Tennessee State (Sun Belt regular-season champs)
4. Oral Roberts (Summit regular-season champs)

Losses by conference champions Iona (MAAC) and Middle Tennessee State (Sun Belt) likely have trimmed the NIT to 30 available spots. Neither is likely to be selected as an at-large for the NCAA tourney.

I like our NIT chances if we beat Northwestern. It's a crapshoot if we go 1 and done in Indy.

Do conference champions who lose in their tournaments get automatic bids to the NIT if they miss the NCAA tourney or do you just think these two teams are locks for at-large invites to the NIT?

Regular-season champs (or in the event of a tie the team with the #1 seed in the conference tourney) that fail to earn a NCAA bid earn automatic invites to the NIT. It's a good rule the NCAA implemented a few years ago, though it does make it more difficult for teams like the Gophers to garner a bid.

Expand the NIT!
