Looking around online, tickets to the 1st and 2nd round games in Austin are running at $180 face value. Stub Hub is a little bit cheaper, but does anyone have any experience with trying to scalp tickets to these 1st and 2nd round games and how much they cost? All of the teams playing in Austin are traveling pretty far, and none of the fanbases travel particularly well, so I wouldn't think there'd be very high demand for the tickets.

I drove over to Milwaukee on Thursday night and checked into the old giant Milwaukee Hilton for the Friday AM game against Xavier in 2010. It turned out that that was also the Gopher team hotel and the team hotel for a number of the teams. I got up around 9:30 AM and walked up by the Bradley Center and paid some guy $80 for two tickets, that also got me into the second game if a I recall. (OK State vs?)

There were almost no empty seats in the Bradley Center that day, as Marquette fans and people wearing Wisconsin Red were taking up a lot of seats. UW played in a different region and played late that afternoon, which I realized as I watched that game in a groggy state on East Water St. around 5PM.

On that day I was:

-Impressed by the support the Milwaukee fans had for CBB although they had no team in at the BC; they showed up and were good sports to us Gopher fans, especially the Marquette fans.

-I expected the Bradley Center to be a dumpy lesser version of the Target Center, it wasn't that great , but was better than expected.

-The environment on both sides of the River before and after the game was great, especially at Bar Louie and the trio of Irish Pubs on the East Side, over the bridge from the KC

-Tickets were reasonable on the street considering all the Wisconsin locals that skipped work and showed up for the games.

-I was impressed by Water Street and Milwaukee and would actually consider living there if I ever had a great job offer.

Lastly I was underwhelmed that the presence of the Gopher fanbase, who only had to drive 5 hours to see the team in Milwaukee, coming on the heels of a great Big Ten Tourney.

The Austin TX ticket dynamic will be very different than Milwaukee.

Thanks oak, I appreciate the info!

To try to better address your questions, I think the supply of tickets outside the UT Austin Basketball Arena might be good, and better priced than the tickets outside the Bradley Center in 2010.

Unless the Stubhub rates drop, I'd bring a pocket of cash to Austin and walk around the Ewrin Center sometime between 8 and 9PM Friday. You might get a ticket for under $20. Worse case is things get tight and you pay a lot more, but still less than current stubhub rates.

I used to live in Austin and never had a problem getting football tix off scalpers outside the parking lots. I suspect you'll get the best value by buying off scalpers 2 or 3 hours before the game. Kinda risky, but you'll find someone trying to unload.

Not having any local teams playing in Austin should help your chances as well.
