I think the potential PAC-16 will regret going that big. 16 teams is just too many for a football conference. Think about it, if you play the seven other teams in your own division every year how many games does that leave against the other division? 1, and at most 2 if you play 9 conference games a year. So Arizona ends up playing at USC once every 8 years? UCLA plays at Arizona State once every 8 years? Lotta unhappiness over those schedules in the long run.

more than likely if they go to 16 they play 9 conference games a year. every team in division once and 2 teams from the other division every 4 years.

The Orangelbloods leaks suggest that the "Pac 8" and the "Southwest 8" would have very little to do with each other at all besides cooperative media rights. Before this is over, I suspect we may hear rumblings about a 24-school "gigaconference" with four six-school divisions and BYU, Utah and TCU joining the conversation. They then do have a case to petition the NCAA for two conference championship games and two BCS bids.

This essentially changes nothing. It's still two separate conferences. It just allows the PacTen and Big XII to cooperatively save face having just lost Nebraska and (effectively) USC. They would appear huge, but would really just be two conferences.

As the Big Ten learned in 2006-2007.... in the media age, perception is reality.
