per 1500:

• Freshman cornerback Jalen Myrick made his collegiate debut, taking over a role on kick returns that had been filled by fellow corner Briean Boddy-Calhoun, who suffered a season-ending ACL and MCL tear last week.

The decision to take a redshirt off Myrick was made by the Gophers coaching staff earlier in the week. Claeys said he expects to slowly faze the 5-foot-10, 200-pound Georgia native into the backend of the rotation in the secondary, as early as next week, using him another option in nickel packages.

Go Gophers!!

I noticed that Myrick was in there. Pretty much inevitable with BBC hurt. We need to recruit a lot more bodies for the secondary, especially with Vereen, Shabazz, and Baltazar all graduating this year.

More numbers inside the story. The Gopher defense was dominant on third down. Depending on how you interpret the Western Illinois 3rd down conversion of 4-14 or 28.5%, or the Gopher Defense stopped Western Illinois 10/14 times 71.4% of the time.
