1500 ESPN: Sampson on loss: 'Illinois just wanted it more'

Sampson never looks like he wants it, he is plays so soft! Makes you wonder if he even cares to try to make it in basketball after college. Mbakwe and now Chip/Hollins are our best shot going forward. Put Hoff back at the 2 and just go with it.

"They were just more hungry for the win than we were," junior Ralph Sampson III said. "We showed it in spurts throughout the game. We need to stay hungry the whole game and have a desire to win and Illinois just wanted it more than we did."

When asked why, Sampson could not give an answer. It was clear the rest of the Gophers couldn't either.

C'mon Ralph! You have never played with hunger and desire for an entire game, not even close. He's like the kid in little league picking dandy-lions in left field.

It is amazing that even coming off a solid game and after making a comment that most would consider good leadership coming from a junior who happens to be a very quiet personality....that you still find it necessary to rip the guy.

He is probably the 2nd best player on the team this year and is no worse than 3rd.

I can see sports writers saying one team wanted it more than the other, but for an actual player to say that... That's just weird. And then when you realize who said it, it makes sense, at least in his mind. Sampson probably wanted the game to be over so he could go play some video games. I'm starting to wonder who's forcing Sampson to play? To me, it just seems like he has no passion for the game, it's more like a job to him.

Some of this stuff is just painful to read. We should just condense all of the Ralph Sampson hate to one thread so it doesn't pollute the board.

What's weird is analyzing what a college kid says to the media....99 percent of the time they are just mimicking what they hear pro athletes/coaches say in similar situation
