12/24 - Polls and Rankings (AP: #11, Coaches #14, CBS #9)

Dang up to #9...win against MSU would really say a lot, IMO about the gophs. Lets get it done!

My guess is we move up to 11.

My guess is we move up to 11.

This is my thinking as well, although I'm hoping for top 10. CBS is usually a couple of spots ahead of the AP and the AP is usually a few spots ahead of the Coaches Poll. So I am expecting 11 in the AP and 14 in the Coaches.

I bet you nailed it. My guess for both as well.

Merry Christmas to us! And ya, I pretty much agree that we'll be 11 in the AP Poll. Top 10 if we beat MSU. Pretty crazy that it could be #9 or something vs. Indiana at 5 or 6.

You must be assuming we don't pass OSU. I'd be pretty surprised if we're not #10 in the AP. We were at 13 last week, and will surely pass Illinois and Florida, which were only a couple spots ahead of us. OSU was at #7 in the AP. Losing at home to Kansas, their second loss, and not looking that great doing it (they shot horribly) I think they drop to 11 or 12.

Somehow the CBS guys ranked us above undefeated Cincy who have been solid from day one and deserve to be ahead of us. I think the AP poll will have us at 10th. Realistically, we probably deserve about 15th. OSU has 2 tough losses to Duke and Kansas and they played both very tough.

We probably would've been playing Indiana at #1 if they hadn't stumbled against the butler.

The CBS poll doesn't even have Michigan State in their top 26. Who the heck is doing that poll, some kid?

Minnesota is 11 in the AP. I knew OSU wouldn't drop below us.

And really they should not, esp due to losing to a top 10 team in Kansas and us beating a glorified D2 team in Lafayette...

There were a lot of people on here drinking the kool aid and thinking we would pass OSU. And a few that were drunk on the kool aid thinking we would pass Syracuse too.

The guys at CBS put us ahead of tO$U. They must be drinking the koolaid too.

You are right, they only get paid to do what they do.

There is two people. They can do whatever they want. At least the ESPN power rankings are like a poor man's AP Poll.

The CBS Top 25 is the most illegitimate poll out there. I don't know why we take them so seriously around here. Probably because they are consistently high on the Gophers.

Which is probably why you can't stand them.

Ohio State might be a top team at some point, but they are over-ranked at this juncture. They looked completely overmatched down the stretch AT HOME against KU, and also let WINTHROP hang around at home earlier in the week (eventually winning by 10). Are we over-ranked? Maybe, but I think perception of this team is unfairly colored by prior years' teams collapses...which have nothing to do with this year's team.

We have a decent shot to be in the top 10 in the next poll. Mizzou and Cincy have games this week they could possibly lose, as do Louisville and AZ (though we may not pass the latter two).

In any event, if we open the B1G season by beating MSU and NW at home, both games in which we'll be favored, then we'd almost certainly be in the top 10 and deservedly so (before going on the road to IL and IN and probably dropping out for a bit).

I guess I have much more respect for OSU. They lost on the road to Duke in a game they led almost the entire way, right up to the end. Then lost to a top ranked Kansas team. Not too shabby. They are going to be dangerous.

Agree if MN starts 2-0 they will be in the top ten. Start 1-1 and barring some big upsets, they wont see the top ten for the rest of the season though...too many tough games to go on a 3 or 4 game win streak in the B10...
